Description
WO 01/51749 PCT/FI00/01008 Frame structure The invention relates to a frame construction, with which a window or a corresponding building component can be mounted in a wall or a corresponding construction comprising elements with a sandwich structure. The sandwich structure of the elements comprises in a known way a thermal insulation, and on its 5 both wide sides surface plates, fastened primarily by gluing. Conventionally the thermal insulation is mineral wool, and the surface plate is a relatively thin metal sheet. These elements known as such are connected to each other at the two opposite edges by a tongue and groove construction, which is formed by bending the edge 10 strips of the surface plates. One edge has a groove, and the opposite edge has a corresponding tongue. Particularly in wall constructions the elements are usually mounted so that the tongue is located at the upper edge of the element and the groove at its lower edge. The elements can also be mounted so that the tongue and groove structures form the vertical joints of the element. Usually those edges, which 15 comprise tongue and groove structures and which are located adjacent each other are usually intended to be mounted as a traditional butt joint. Constructions, which are assembled of such elements, particularly walls, have been provided in a known way with openings, i.a. for windows, whereby the opening is made by removing a corresponding part from an element. The window is mounted 20 in the opening with the aid of suitable frame structures, which are formed by different profile structures. The tooling of the openings and the installation of the window in the formed opening, so that the installation will be weatherproof, is a cumbersome procedure, which requires professional skills. To this problem there is provided a solution with a frame, which encases the 25 window or the like, and which is made as a profile structure according to the invention, so that the bottom batten of the frame construction comprises at least in its outer part a fitting component, which fits in the tongue and groove structure at the upper edge of the element and advantageously in a cover profile, and that in a corresponding way the top batten, at least in its outer part, comprises a fitting 30 component, which fits in the tongue and groove structure at the lower edge of the element.
WO 01/51749 2 PCT/FI00/01008 A window or a corresponding building component provided with the frame in question can be mounted for instance in the wall construction in the place of a wall element, whereby it will fit in without problems and form a tight construction together with the other wall parts. The building component in question must of 5 course be dimensioned so that it is compatible with the dimensions of the other elements. The height is advantageously chosen as the height of the wall elements to be mounted. Other alternative dimensions may also be considered, considering the variety of complementary wall elements. The same is true regarding the dimensioning of the width of the window. 10 The invention will be described in more detail with reference to the enclosed figures in the drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows schematically a frame construction according a first embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 shows schematically a frame construction according a second embodiment 15 of the invention; Figure 3 shows schematically a frame construction according a third embodiment of the invention. The window 1 is shown as mounted between horizontal lower and upper sandwich wall elements 2, 2'. Said elements comprise a thermal insulating core, which on its 20 both wide surfaces is covered by a metal sheet. The lower and upper edge strips of the sheets are bent in a known way to form groove respectively tongue structures 5 and 4. The window 1 is enclosed by a frame 3, which comprises a construction assembled of profile battens. The outer battens 6 and 7 of this frame construction, as well as 25 the battens 10 and 11 which form its inner side, comprise in a manner known as such, suitable flange structures 3a, 3b, which extend up to the intended window opening, and between which the actual window 1 is intended to be mounted, a tightly closed double-pane window as in the shown embodiment. The outer battens 6 and 7 are fastened with a suitable binding batten of the frame construction to the 30 corresponding inner batten 10 and 11, respectively, which in the figure is shown by a schematic outline.
WO 01/51749 3 PCT/FIOO/01008 Suitable gaskets are located between the flanges 3a, 3b and the window 1. According to the invention, those profile battens forming the frame construction are made so that the lower batten 6 has a fitting part 6', which is formed to fit over the tongue 4 in the upper edge of an element located below. Further, the lower batten 6 5 includes advantageously a cover flange 6", which provides a good rain protection in the joint between the window and the element. The upper batten 7 includes a corresponding fitting part 7', which is made to fit into the groove construction 5 in the lower edge of an element located above. This fitting part comprises a projecting seat-formed section, with the aid of which an upper element 2' is mounted against 10 the window frame 3. In order to seal the vertical joints between the elements and the window, the corresponding frame battens comprise flanges, which correspond to the cover flange 6" of the lower batten 6, and which overstep the surfaces of the elements on either side of the window and rest against them. 15 In order to seal the inner joints around the window the frame battens can also include locking flanges 8, with the aid of which cover battens 9 having an L-shaped cross-section can be mounted around the window. With the frame construction according to the invention a window can be mounted in an element construction so that it acts in the construction quite in the same way as 20 the actual element, in place of which it has been mounted. The possibilities for installation, the sealing and the loading capacity are the same as for the ordinary element. As the window fits in the wall construction it will also better stand against the wind loads acting on it. The construction, in which the window is mounted, can be vertical, inclined or 25 horizontal, and it can belong to the external surface of a building or it can define interior spaces of the building. Above the window is shown so that it is installed as a so-called horizontal installation, in which the batten construction according to the invention fits into the horizontal joints in the rest of the construction. The window can be mounted in the 30 same way also in a vertical construction, where the tongue and groove structures are located in the vertical joints of the elements.
WO 01/51749 4 PCT/FIOO/01008 The advantage of the frame construction is that the window 1 or the like can be mounted afterwards. In other words, the other elements 2, 2' can be mounted in their places, and only later the window 1 is mounted in its place, whereby there is a considerably lower risk of breaking compared to mounting it simultaneously with 5 the other elements 2, 2'. In the embodiments according to figures 2 and 3 the frame construction's lower batten 6 has a separate part 12, which when required can be mounted only at the building site in order not to inconvenience the transport. For fastening the part 12 to the batten 6 there is arranged a locking groove 13. 10 The shape of the part 12 may vary according to the requirements, i.e. it can have a drip moulding (figure 3), or it can have no drip moulding (figure 2), or when desired, it can be provided with some other decorative panel. As the windows 1 with batten constructions can mounted afterwards, also the drip mouldings (part 12) can be fitted to the building later by taking out the window 1 15 and replacing the part 12 with a part where the drip moulding is an integrated component of the part 12 or a separate component which can be fastened to the part 12. Still another advantage with the frame construction is that the window 1 can be transported to the building site very conveniently on truck beds in a standing 20 position. The beds have wooden stands with grooves, which receive the cover flange 6" projecting from the lower edge of the frame. The upper edges of the windows are fastened with a corresponding grooved wooden support, which receives the fitting part 7' of the window 1. Thus the windows 1 are kept upright, and they find place in a small space during the transport. 25
