Abstract
In order to calibrate the thermal release element of a built-in installation switch, which is switched off by excess current, in electrical low-voltage distribution networks, the switch has a release slide for transmitting the force from at least one bimetallic strip (321, 322, 323) to an associated latching mechanism. The release slide can be moved in cut-outs by guide ribs (30) of a switch insert. A carriage, which can be moved in a sliding manner in the longitudinal direction of the release slide and which encloses the bimetallic strip with play is provided for each bimetallic strip, which carriage surrounds angle pieces (121, 141; 122, 142; 123, 143). The longerons (26, 28) which essentially form the release slide are guided by a release lever (44) to the release point of the latching mechanism. The bimetallic strip or strips is or are heated by the calibration current corresponding according to the regulations to the lowest excess current required to release the latching mechanism, until the bending bimetallic strip or strips has or have reached the nominal amount of bending to move the associated carriage on the release slide. The carriage or carriages and the longerons of the release slide are connected to one another in this limit position quickly and in a mechanically stable manner. The method is used for calibrating motor protection circuit breakers, thermal excess current relays for contactors and line circuit breakers. <IMAGE>
