Abstract

A vessel acts as an intermediate storage point for molten steel prior to its discharge into a casting mold. The vessel is protected from the impact of incoming molten metal by a tundish (4) which has a cover (4d) which is partially destroyed by the incoming molten metal (3). The tundish is made of a incombustible material. The thin-walled cover is made of the same type of metal as the incoming molten steel and is perforated or incorporates fenestrations. The dish diameter is only slightly larger than the flow of incoming molten metal.
