Abstract
The tundish impact pad is used in metal casting, in particular in the continuous steel casting. It is made of refractory material and is impact-resistant. The pad comprises a base (3) with impact surface (5), which, when in operation is upwards oriented in order to take up the molten metal (1). The impact pad also has a side wall (7) which stretches out upwards, from at least part of the periphery of the impact surface (5). At least part of the interior and the surface of the side wall (7) are porous. The impact pad comprises means for feeding gas, such as argon, to the porous interior of the porous wall (7) in order to allow gas feeding to the molten metal from the porous surface of the side wall. 13 claims, 4 figures
