Abstract

The hydraulic or pneumatic wood splitting mechanism (10) has holding arms (28) projecting forward from a vertical stand (12). The arms can turn in a common horizontal plane. They have control rods (30) with handles (32) to operate the drive (16). Under each arm, there is a holder (38), running horizontally or at a slight angle towards the centre of the mechanism. The holder can be turned up or down about a horizontal axis (40). A spring holds the plate roughly horizontal. The front edge of the holder forms a zigzag gripping edge (46) to engage with the log to be split.
