Abstract

The invention specifies a transporting apparatus having at least one storage and retrieval unit for removing and introducing a load, in particular pallets (3) bearing passenger motor vehicles, into compartments, arranged one above the other, of racks (2) and for transferring the pallets (3) to a storing and/or retrieving station (20, 21) for the load, said storage and retrieval unit exhibiting a frame which can be displaced on the ground along the racks (2), arranged one beside the other, and on which there may be vertically displaced a lifting crossmember (11) which exhibits means for exchanging the pallets (1) between itself and a rack compartment or a compartment-like position of the storing and/or retrieving station. In this arrangement, it is provided that a unit (15) is arranged on the lifting crossmember (11) such that it can rotate and can be driven in rotation about a vertical axis (14), that the axis of rotation (14) of the unit (15) lies in the region of the point of intersection of the diagonals of the horizontal pallet cross-section, and that, by virtue of the unit (15), a pallet (3, 32) located on the lifting crossmember (11) can rotate through at least 180@. <IMAGE>
