  Beize.

  Stain.

The most commonly used stain in fabric printing is acetic acid chromium. It is either produced by the printers themselves or obtained as a solution or solid salt. In the latter case, it must be dissolved in 2-3 parts of water before use, which requires several hours and the use of a steam-heated dissolving vessel. (See Witt-Lehmann Chem. Technologie der Gespinstfäden, Braunschweig 1910, page 285).

The valuable observation has now been made that the hexacetatodioltrichromi salts first produced by Werner (Ber. 41,3447 / 1907) are extremely suitable as stains for fixing colors, especially for fabric printing. In contrast to the aforementioned solid chromium acetate commercially available, these salts are easily soluble in cold water. They also contain 41% chromium oxide when dehydrated and can therefore be sent anywhere without significant freight costs.

Cotton fabric is printed with this color. The goods are then steamed for an hour and finished in the usual way by rinsing, chalking, malting, soaping and finishing.
