Verfahren zur Herstellung eines schwefelhaltigen Produktes aus Toluol.
Durch das Stammpatent Nr. 93242 ist ein Verfahren geschützt, gemäss dem man zu einem wert. vollen, schwefelhaltigem, öligem Produkt gelangt, wenn man Toluol mit Schwefel und geringen Mengen von Aluminiumchlorid bei höherer Temperatur behandelt.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass man bei der Darstellung dieses Produktes nicht fertig gebildetes Aluminiumchlorid zu benutzen braucht, sondern an dessen Stelle, in an sich bekannter Weise metallisches, feinzerkleinertes Aluminium verwenden kann, wenn man gleichzeitig in das Reaktionsgemisch Salzsäure einleitet. Diese Arbeitsweise bedeutet eine wesentliche technische Verbesserung, deren Gelingen in vorliegendem Fall in keiner Weise vorauszusehen war.
Beispiel : 6000 Gewichtsteile Toluol, 1500 Gewichtsteile Schwefel, 50 Gewichtsteile Aluminium in Blättchenform werden unter Einleiten von Salzsäure allmählig zum Sieden erhitzt und bei dieser Temperatur bis zur Beendigung der Schwefelwasserstoffentwicklung gehalten. Die weitere Aufarbeitung geschieht wie in Beispiel 1 des Sta. mmpatentes.

The parent patent no. 93242 protects a process according to which one becomes a value. full, sulfur-containing, oily product is obtained when toluene is treated with sulfur and small amounts of aluminum chloride at a higher temperature.
It has now been found that in the preparation of this product it is not necessary to use completely formed aluminum chloride, but instead metallic, finely comminuted aluminum can be used in a manner known per se if hydrochloric acid is introduced into the reaction mixture at the same time. This mode of operation represents a significant technical improvement, the success of which in the present case could not be foreseen in any way.
Example: 6000 parts by weight of toluene, 1500 parts by weight of sulfur, 50 parts by weight of aluminum in flake form are gradually heated to boiling while passing in hydrochloric acid and kept at this temperature until the evolution of hydrogen sulfide has ceased. The further work-up takes place as in Example 1 of the Sta. mmpatentes.
