Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 EMI1.1

 EMI1.1

In turbine systems it often happens that when the turbine is suddenly opened, the water in the pipeline cannot flow in quickly enough. The water column breaks and the pipes are pressed in as a result of the negative pressure that occurs in them. Dangerous water hammer has also been observed repeatedly.

Up until now, this problem could only be solved by installing a water tower in
 EMI1.2
 playful, often impossible.

Replacing these water towers with air tanks usually resulted in violent pressure fluctuations in the pipeline, and air inlet valves that were installed in the pipeline from time to time also caused mostly violent shocks.

The invention helps these evils by that in the pipeline in the vicinity of the
 EMI1.3
tion in the pipeline does not suck air, but rather water from a reservoir R. The water level in this reservoir must always be kept at the same level by a float valve or in some other way.

Due to the distance A of the water level in the valve reservoir from the center of the pipe and the height of this reservoir above the turbine, the magnitude of the pressure reduction at which the suction valve is activated can be changed as desired.

An embodiment of such a suction valve is shown in FIG. 2. Normally, the openings L located in the pipe walls are closed by the leather flaps X under the effect of the overpressure in the pipe. However, as soon as a sufficient pressure reduction occurs inside the pipe, the leather flaps allow water to flow from the reservoir R into the pipe interior under the action of the external overpressure. As soon as the pressure is back to its normal level; increases, the leather flaps K close the openings L.

The reservoir R, which is designed as an open reservoir in FIG. 1, can also be designed as a wind chamber.
