Process for the simultaneous extraction of fat and ammonium sulphate from the faeces carried in municipal sewage water.
Processes for the recovery of fat from fecal strain by extraction with fat solvents are known.
These processes suffer from the disadvantage that the fats obtained have a faecal odor which can only be removed temporarily with difficulty by refining processes, but which reappears after some time, so that these fats cannot be used for soap production either.
The main purpose of the method according to the invention is to eliminate this drawback and also to make the extraction of fat from faeces particularly economical in a manner not previously known. This is done by completely drying the faecal sludge pressed out under the exclusion of air, in contrast to the previous methods, which only intended the drying of the sludge to a low moisture content, then ground and extracted in two phases. The exhaust gases that occur during drying are fed into the furnace so that any nuisance to the environment due to bad smells is completely avoided.
The two-phase nature of the extraction consists in that the completely dry and ground feces are first exhausted by any fat solvent, whereby all the neutral fats and fatty acids contained in the feces pass into the extract and are then split in a second phase with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid and extracted again . This extract flowing from the second phase contains the fatty acids split off from the soaps.
The advantage of the two-phase system with complete prior drying of the feces is that the process can be carried out without nuisance to the environment by unpleasant smells, whereby the process results in the highest economy with the greatest possible yield because the extractants penetrate the dry substance better than a moist one .
The more or less brownish colored fat obtained is purified in suitable distillation apparatus in a manner known per se with recovery of the extractant. The entire completely exhausted residue is converted into ammonia in gaseous form in a known manner in the coking process to make the nitrogen contained in it usable, condensed into gas water and processed into ammonium sulphate, but the energy contained in the withdrawn gas quantities for the evaporation of the water contained in the filtered sludge more completely Used for drying the feces.
