Description

Process for the deacidification of the nitroglycerine.
In the production of nitroglycerine by the generally accepted process, the losses of glycerine and nitric acid are approximately 10 to 15%. These losses are due to the solubility of free nitric acid in nitroglycerine and the solubility of the latter in the waste acid and in the wash water. The first wash water has an increased dissolving power for the glycerol nitrates due to its high content of free nitric acid.
In general, there is the old washing or. The deacidification process involves treating the nitroglycerine containing nitric acid, which has been separated from the waste acid, first once or twice with water, then only to neutralize the last residues of free acid with dilute soda solution and then again with water. All washing liquids run into a septic tank and with them are not only lost considerable amounts of nitric acid, but also larger amounts of emulsified and dissolved glycerine nitrates.
A complete avoidance of these losses caused by the washing process can be achieved with the new washing process identified below:
The nitroglycerin, which contains nitric acid after separation from the waste acid, becomes

this contains the corresponding amount of alkali carbonate, subjected. Instead of the washing water of the old process, which contains a lot of nitric acid and has an increased dissolving effect on the glycerine nitrates, the saturated alkali nitrate solution, which has a salting out effect, is used here.
After replacing the carbonate consumed by the free nitric acid, the nitrate solution can be used again and again and as a result the free nitric acid adhering to the nitroglycerine is not lost, but is recovered as alkali nitrate.
EMI1.2
and the associated losses of glycerine and nitric acid of the old washing processes are completely avoided.
