Process for obtaining a high quality tannin from spruce bark.

The invention relates to a method for obtaining high quality tannin from spruce bark. Until now, the tannins were obtained from spruce bark that had not been de-resinified. According to the method according to the invention, however, the bark is previously desiccated, whereupon it is leached out with warm water. This leaching is expediently carried out according to the countercurrent principle.

When removing resin from the bark, it is essential that it be dried during the extraction process by evaporating the water it contains. To achieve this, the solvent used for resin removal, advantageously gasoline, must have a boiling point of approx. 1000 C. If a solvent with a lower boiling point was used, the direct steam used to drive off the solvent would be carried away with the water still in the bark. On the other hand, the boiling point of the solvent must not exceed 1000 C, because otherwise part of the tannin contained in the spruce bark will go into insoluble form during the resin removal process.

For these reasons, the resin removal process must be carried out without pressure and the use of superheated solvent vapors is also excluded.

The resin-removed and dried spruce bark obtained in this way allows t-ine such a high diffusion rate that it, when leached with warm water, results in highly concentrated tannin liquors of 10 to 40 Bé. Compared to the spruce bark that is not contained, processing the resinified results in a higher yield of around 1 50/0 tannin, which is around 6 for an extract of around 23 Bé. corresponds.

According to tests carried out, the extract obtained from resinified spruce bark can be kept for a longer time than that produced from non resinified bark and gives the so-called Iliingefarhen "far better tanning results, especially for upper leather0
The process is characterized by its simplicity and cheapness and the tanning agent obtained is of higher quality in every direction than that obtained by the previously known processes.
