Process for the production of a particularly suitable for medicinal use
Form of the bromine sulfate.
The multiple uses of hydrobromic acid in medicine suffers from the supernatant that the acid must be used in liquid form; it is therefore difficult to dose, and the caustic properties of the acid are very unpleasantly noticeable, especially when storing the compositions.
It has now been found that these inconveniences are eliminated if the acid is converted into the previously unknown betaine salt. It was shown that the betaine bromide hydrate forms an easily water-soluble salt. which has a very pleasant fruit acid taste and is largely hydrolytically split in an aqueous solution. The solid salt is also in the

Pastilles are pressed; These are extremely convenient to use, easily dissolve in water and have the therapeutic effect of hydrobromic acid.
The production of Betainebromhydratea can, for. B. by neutralizing betaine base with hydrobromic acid and evaporating the solution; on the other hand, betaine bromohydrate can also be produced by double reaction of other betaine salts with salts of hydrobromic acid. B. can be obtained by the action of barium bromide on betaine sulfate.
The previously unknown betaine bromide hydrate obtained in this way is a colorless, well crystallizing salt that is stable in the air. It is very easily soluble in water; One part of the salt dissolves in alcohol in 17 parts in the heat, in 60 parts in normal temperature. The substance requires 11 parts of methyl alcohol to dissolve in the heat and 25 parts at ordinary temperature. it contains 41% H Br.
