Die in gelöstem Zustande als Anstrich für Stoffe, die starken Witteiungseinflüssen aus- gesetzt sind, verwendete Acetylcellulose ist für Holzanstriche deshalb nicht geeignet, weil der Anstrich nicht auf dem Holz haftet, vielmehr eine dunne, in sich zusammenhängende Schicht bildet, die sich schon im Trockenzustand leicht vom Holz entfernen lässt, sich bei Feuchtwerden des Holzes aber von selbst loslöst.
Die der Acetylzellulose eigentumliche Wetterbeständigkeit lässt sich dann auch für Holzanstriche verwerten, wenn ihr durch Beimischung verschiedener Substanzen eine grössere Haftbarkeit am Holz verliehen wird. Als solche Substanzen kommen z. B. Teer, Holzteerprodukte
