Waenllupplung with coupling iron.
Car couplings with coupling iron and a two-part plug-in element carried by this for pressing the two coupling heads apart in order to achieve a rigid prevention of the latter and at the same time preventing dead walking in the bolt connections are no longer new.
In addition, it is already known to arrange contacts facing each other on the two halves of a coupling in order to close the lighting circuit and the braking circuit when the car coupling is produced. Such a wagon coupling required a separate design of the coupling halves, because the fixed vertical coupling hook of one coupling head had to be brought into and out of engagement with the same coupling hook on the second coupling head by moving the coupling head sideways

rod, Fig. 4 the coupling iron with the coupling device and the contact pins in plan view and Fig. 5 the associated end view.
The buffer plates 1 are, as usual, provided with a rectangular hole 2 that extends into the buffer rod J and is used to insert the coupling bars 4 connecting the two opposing buffers, with an elongated hole 5 at each end for the coupling bolt 6 which is to be inserted through holes 7 lying one above the other in the hollow end of the buffer rod 3.

The two lower springs 12 are connected to the lead wires 16 for the luminous flux and the lead wires 17 for the braking current are connected to the two upper springs 12.
On the coupling iron 4, a hollow threaded piece 18 is supported to a limited extent longitudinally, but not rotatably. For this purpose, the end walls of the thread piece 18 each have a rectangular passage opening 19 for the coupling iron 4 and this has a hole 20 in the middle through which a bolt 21 passes, which diametrically penetrates the thread piece 18 and attaches to it is. The threaded piece is penetrated in the axial direction by four made of conductive material, against the threaded piece by a sleeve 24 made of hard rubber or the like. Insulated contact pins 22, 22 or 228, 22a, the ends of which protrude from the end walls of the threaded piece 18 and the contact -

plate 1 is inserted.
The pins 22 and 22a are each provided with a stop 23 which, in conjunction with an annular insert 24: the sleeve. 24 prevents the pins from falling out of the threaded piece. A nut 25 provided with a handwheel 25 is screwed onto the latter.
The contact springs J2 or also the short-circuiting device 15 of each buffer plate are covered by a thick cap 27 made of insulation material.
In order to couple two cars to one another, the coupling iron 4 is pushed with its ends into the holes 2 of the buffer plate 1 and secured by means of the socket pins 6, as is usually the case.
By turning the handwheel 25, the threaded piece 18 is then unscrewed from its nut 26 until the bolts 6 are pressed against the coupling elements 4 and clamped by the latter, while the two buffer plates are pushed back. Since the threaded piece 18 on the one hand

in a completely rigid state.
When the coupling is established, the pins 22 and 22a push back the contact pins 11 and 11a. As a result, through the intermediary of these pins, the light current line or dip brake current line of one car is automatically connected to that of the coupled car and the brake cable that was customary up to now is made superfluous.
