Yellow-to-brown color bodies made from sulfur iron.
So far it has not been possible to artificially produce yellow to yellow-brown color bodies which could replace natural ocher in terms of purity of the color tone, opacity, resistance to oil and cheap price.
The yellow basic iron sulphates are pure yellow in color, but have no covering power and turn into oil. Iron hydrates, precipitated in the usual way from solutions of ferric salts by hydroxides and carbonates, are brown, flaky, and dry together into hard pieces. Iron oxide of titanium, obtained by annealing, is likely to be inferior to natural ocher in terms of production costs. This last example also provides evidence of how great the need is to manufacture a product that is equivalent to natural ocher.
The present invention also emerged from this endeavor, in which it was assumed that between the well-covering red iron oxide and the non-covering, water-rich hydroxides, there are yellow hydrates that are poorer in water. must come, which are close to the iron oxide in its properties as a color body.
It has been found that hydrated iron sulfur compounds, such as those formed e.g. B. by filling a sulfur alkali or alkaline earth lye with an iron oxide or iron oxide salt solution. by oxidation with air an iron hydrate is obtained which possesses all the above properties in such a high degree that the natural ocher is exceeded, regardless of whether the sulfur is removed from the hydrate or not. Since the purity of the color tone naturally depends on the purity of the sulfur iron, it is important to produce this from pure materials. Therefore, neither raw nor cyanogenous gas cleaning compound is usually suitable for this purpose.
Example.
Eisenchlorurlauge, as z. 1 \, which arises as iron pickling liquor and is discarded as a worthless waste product from extensive metal industries to the detriment of the environment
EMI1.1
It is advantageous to use the sulfur barium, because both the Cl of the iron liquor and the Ba of the sulphide liquor are converted into a more valuable form of the chlorobarium
EMI1.2
The so produced iron-sulfur is oxidized in a suitable vessel by treatment with air and the mixture, consisting of iron hydroxide and sulfur, filtered and washed. The sulfur can be removed by known solvents, such as. B. carbon disulfide, are removed or remain in the mass.
The precipitate, freed from adhering water in one way or another, forms the finished color body.
EMI1.3
Temperature at which it was oxidized, conditional. Its opacity and fineness significantly surpass natural ocher.
