Description

Electrolyte for collector cells.
The invention relates to a liquid for secondary batteries in a novel composition.
This electrolyte consists of sulfuric acid. Sodium silicate and water and may be provided with an addition of asbestos. It is made in the following way.
Sulfuric acid is poured into water until a specific gravity of 1 # 230 is found for the solution in the byrometric test. Asbestos, preferably white or bleached asbestos, is mixed with distilled water and boiled for about an hour to remove any impurities. The asbestos is then freed from water by squeezing it out and then dried until the entire water content has evaporated.
Sodium silicate, in powder form, is placed in distilled water until the specific gravity of the solution in the hydrometric test is 1,180. It is advisable to slowly add the sodium silicate to the water and to stir the mixture vigorously to completely dissolve the powder.
Twelve parts by weight of the diluted sulfuric acid, three parts by weight of the purified asbestos and one or half part by weight of the solution of the sodium
