Verfahren zur Herstellung von mit Mangansuperoxyd imprägnierten Kohlenelektroden für galvanische Elemente.
Vorliegende Verfahren bezweckt, poröse Kohlenelektroden mit einer festbaftenden, die Poren gleichmässig durchsetzenden Schicht von gntleitendem Mangansuperoxyd zu versehen.
Zu diesem Zweck wird Mangankarbonat in Salpetersäure aufgelöst. Die bei genügender Konzentration entstehenden Kristalle werden in Weingeist gelöst. In diese Lösung taucht man die porösen Kohlen solange, bis eine vollständige Durchtränkung erzielt ist.
Alsdann trocknet man die Kohlen und erhitzt dieselben bis zu einer Temperatur von 128 bis 1320 C. Nachdem auf diese Weise das Lösungsmittel der Kristalle und die Säure derselben ausgetrieben sind, bleibt in den Poren und auf der Oberfläche der Kohle ein festhaftender, äusserst wirksamer und sehr haltbarer Überzug von schwarzbraunem Mangansuperoxyd zurück.
Die so präparierten Kohlen eignen sich als positive Elektroden für Sekundärelemente, wenn man als Gegenelektroden solche aus porösem Blei in Chlorkalziumlösung oder E1ek- troden aus Zink in Chlorzinklösung verwendet.
Bei sehr kleinen Zellen, z. H. solchen für Taschenlampen, ist es zweckmässig, die sichthare Oberfläche der porösen Kohlen mit Rillen zu versehen.
Als wichtige Eigenschaft dieser Kohlen ist hervorzuhehen, dass sie keine Sci st- entladung haben und lange gut wirksam bleiben.

The purpose of the present method is to provide porous carbon electrodes with a firmly adhering layer of gliding manganese peroxide that evenly penetrates the pores.
For this purpose, manganese carbonate is dissolved in nitric acid. The crystals that form when the concentration is sufficient are dissolved in alcohol. The porous carbon is immersed in this solution until it is completely saturated.
The coals are then dried and heated up to a temperature of 128 to 1320 C. After the solvent of the crystals and the acid thereof have been expelled in this way, a firmly adhering, extremely effective and very strong substance remains in the pores and on the surface of the coal Durable coating of black-brown manganese superoxide back.
The charcoals prepared in this way are suitable as positive electrodes for secondary elements if the counterelectrodes used are those made of porous lead in calcium chloride solution or electrodes made of zinc in zinc chloride solution.
