Die Vorrichtung gemäss der vorliegenden Erfindung eignet sich insbesondere für die Sterilisation von Wasser und anderen Flüssigkeiten, die   gegenüber den ultravioletten   Strahlen sehr durchlässig sind.

   Doch lässt sie sich auch für andere Flüssigkeiten verwenden, wenn man nur die Geschwindigkeit des   Flüssigkeitedurchgangs entsprechend regelt.   Man hat es alsdann in der Hand, zu erreichen, dass alle   Flüssigkeitsteilchen   nacheinander mit der inneren Oberfläche der Schlange in   Berührung   kommen und demnach der   Sterilisationswirkung   der Strahlen der Quecksilberlampe usw. unterliegen.

Auch   in dieser Figur ist die Lampe als Leuchtrohr in Form eines U (13) mit zwei Elektroden an derselben Seite dargestellt.

   Diese Lampenform hat,   abgesehen von dem höheren Nutzeffekt,   den Vorzug, dass sie sich leicht in das Innere des zylindrischen Mantels 14 einführen lässt, welcher aus einem einzigen Stück bestehen kann, während man ihn mehrteilig herstellen müsste, wenn es sich um eine Lampe mit sehr grossen Elektroden an den beiden Enden handelte.
