and then heated for about 4 hours to about 240 to 2500. In this way, a dye is obtained which, from a sulfur-alkaline bath, produces intense blue-gray nuances on unstained cotton, which are very washable and show relatively good chlorine fastness.
If, in the above example, the temperature is not driven so high, but kept at around 2000, a product is obtained which produces more violet-gray nuances which are also relatively resistant to chlorine.
5. 28 parts of p-oxy-m-carboxyphenyl-ss-naphthylamine, 10 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (43 Be), 100 parts of sodium sulfur crystallize and 80 parts of sulfur are heated to the boil in an oil bath on a reflux condenser for about 20 to 40 hours. The dye, isolated from the melt in a known manner, dyes unstained cotton black.
6.20 parts of p-oxy-m'-methyldiphenylamine are heated to 140 to 1700 for about 3 hours together with 10 parts of sodium hydroxide solution (43 Be) and 20 parts of sulfur; the temperature is then brought to about 180 to 2200 and held for about 7 to 12 hours. The product obtained in this way produces red-brown nuances on unpickled cotton from a sulfur-alkaline bath.
7. A mixture of 30 parts of p-oxy-m'-chlorodiphenylamine, 100 parts of sulfuric acid crystallized, 80 parts of sulfur and 200 parts of alcohol is heated to the boil for about 60 to 120 hours on a reflux condenser. The dye separated from the reaction mass in a known manner dyes unstained cotton reddish brown.
8. 24 parts of p-oxyphenyl-x-naphthylamine are crystallized together with 100 parts of sodium sulphide and about 80 parts of sulfur are heated to boiling in an oil bath on a reflux condenser for about 20 to 40 hours. The product obtained in this way produces a dull blue on unheated cotton.
The process of the present invention is of course not restricted to the proportions and temperatures given in the examples; In particular, instead of the sodium polysulphides used, other alkali polysulphides or other mixtures of alkali sulphides and sulfur can be used. Likewise, the temperature and the duration of the heating can be varied within wide limits.
Finally, instead of the 4-oxydiarylamines used in the examples, other products belonging to the class of starting materials indicated above can be used. \\) c
