Cool to freezing point. The water running down collects in the container 23, which delimits the air chambers at the top and in which a constant water level is maintained, which extends almost to the cooling coils.
The bottom 24 of the container 23 is corrugated, and from these corrugations the water is led through a large number of tubes 2, 5 to overflow gutters 26. This arrangement is particularly effective for cooling the air. There is space between the container and the crossed bar grating, which allows the unimpeded passage of air to the outlet pipe 13, since a mist or water dust in this space would prevent the passage of air. The tubes 25 between the container and the drip gutters, however, do not hinder the passage of air and, since the air comes into intimate contact with them, it is effectively cooled.
The crossed bar grate 12 divides the falling water into a slowly trickling rain and splits the rising air into small streams, so that the greatest possible air cooling can be brought about with the smallest possible amount of water. The water flows evenly from the overflow drip channels 26 and is split by the crossed bar grate 12

the upper part of the rain cooler.
Since the water that trickles through the crossed bar grating removes most of the moisture from the air, the amount of water is increased. In order to keep the water level in the upper container constant, it is equipped with pipe connections which drain away the excess water. These discharge pipes are advantageously led to the atomizers 6 in the air shafts /, and since the overflowing water is very cold, the effectiveness of the atomizers is increased.
The cold store (Fig. 1 and 2 has a series of chambers 29 separated from one another, with openings 30 at the bottom with shut-off valves. Through which the air flows in. This is
