Copper-zinc alloy (brass) with 56 to 620/0 copper.
The subject of the present invention is a copper-zinc alloy with 56 to 620/0 copper, in which silicon and tin are introduced as the only deliberate additives. In this way, a material is achieved which, in its unfinished state, combines the properties most valued in practice: high yield strength, high toughness, low

Machinability with cutting tools.
Such alloys with 56 to 620/0 copper, 43-3 to 35 # 0% zinc, 0-2 to 1-50 / silicon and 0.5 to 100 tin result in z. B. in the as-cast state, yield strengths from 20 to 30 kg / mm2, tensile strengths from 48 to 55 kg / mm2, elongations 25 to 350/0 and, for the notched impact bending test, specific impact work of 8 to 12 tTt / c. When they solidify, they show a very low tendency to form cavities and even in the case of solid castings, they show no acidification. They are very resistant to acids, salt solutions and alkalis. Despite their high toughness, they can be planed, filed, turned, etc. very easily, easily forged, rolled and pressed in a red heat and drawn, rolled and hammered at normal temperature.
This is an overall result that has not been achieved by any previously known brass or special brass.
The addition of silicon as well as tin alone to brass and special brass is already known, but it has never been suggested to introduce silicon and tin simultaneously and as the only deliberate additions to pure brass with a copper content of 56 to 620/0}. In contrast, bronzes made of copper, tin, zinc and silicon are known.
For the practical production of the copper-zinc-silicon-tin alloy forming the subject of this invention, the following example may apply: 58 kg of copper are melted and well overheated and then, with thorough stirring, 1 kg of silicon copper with 30% silicon, 1 kg of tin and 40 kg of zinc dissolved in it.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Copper-zinc alloy (brass) with 56 to 62 / copper, characterized in that it contains silicon and tin as the only deliberate additives.
