Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

  Process for obtaining atbumin cans.

Tests with the method described in patent no. 45591 have shown that this is capable of a considerably expanded design and application.

It has been found that formic acid can easily dissolve albumin. After the acid has been allowed to evaporate, it can be recovered, which then results in membranes that are insoluble in water. You can also make rayon directly from egg white without using formaldehyde. to have to. Likewise, films, molded pieces and the like in the form of thin plates etc. can also easily be produced in the manner described.

The best way to do this is to do the solution in the cold, as prolonged heating is harmful and deeper splits are difficult to avoid. Likewise, the acid must not be left to act for too long, otherwise the residues obtained after the acid has been driven off show a tendency to become brittle.
 EMI1.1
Glycerin, camphor, shellac, tragacanth, agar-agar, gelatine or even tannin are given.

   Embodiment.

The water-soluble albumin is dissolved in formic acid (90-990 / 0) in a ratio of 1:10 within a few hours at normal temperature. The formic acid can be rounded off. The residue is insoluble in water, glossy and transparent.

If a solution of albumin in formic acid is mixed with a solution of tannin in formic acid, no precipitate is formed. When it evaporates, the mixture gives a shiny, transparent residue, more or less resistant to water, depending on the tannin content. Instead of the tannin, other substances suitable for this can also be added, in particular the substances already mentioned, glycerine, camphor, shellac, tragacanth, agar-agar or gelatine.
