<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a balancer shaft for an internal combustion engine with at least one balancing mass, a balancing molding with a lower mass than the balancing mass being attached to the balancing shaft in the area of the balancing mass and supplementing the balancing mass to a circular cylindrical shape.
From Austrian utility model application 1 GM 648/98, a balancer shaft for an internal combustion engine of the type mentioned at the outset is known, in which a balancing molding is attached in the area of the balancing masses in such a way that an approximately circular cylindrical shape is produced in the balancing mass area. This is intended to avoid splashing effects of the leveling compounds immersed in the lubricating oil, which would greatly reduce the lubricity of the oil. The compensating molded parts consist of light metal or heat-resistant plastic and are detachably - for example by screws - or non-detachably - for example by casting - connected to the compensating shafts.
A variant is also proposed in which the compensating molded parts are essentially formed by sleeves which are pushed onto the compensating shafts and the compensating masses. The space between the sleeves and the balancing masses can be poured out so that a solid solid cylinder is created together with the balancing masses.
This largely prevents splashing effects by immersing the leveling compounds in the lubricating oil.
Due to the smooth interfaces of the leveling compounds, casting of leveling molded parts is problematic, since a firm connection between the leveling molding and leveling compound is not guaranteed, especially during longer operation and due to the vibrations and inertial forces that occur. For this reason, screwed connections and balancer shafts with cast sleeve-like compensating molded parts are preferred in practice despite the higher manufacturing costs.
Balancing shafts with sleeve-like cylindrical balancing molded parts are also known from EP 0 789 165 A1.
It is the object of the invention to avoid churning effects in the long term with as little effort as possible with balancing shafts.
This takes place according to the invention in that the compensating molded part is positively connected to the compensating shaft. The positive connection ensures that the compensating molded part remains firmly connected to the balancing shaft even after a long period of operation. It is preferably provided
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
that the compensating molded part is connected to the compensating mass via a form-fitting part. The form-fitting part is preferably made in one piece with the balance shaft, so that additional fastening elements are not required.
In a particularly simple embodiment variant it is provided that the form-fitting part is formed by a web arranged essentially in the direction of the axis of rotation of the balancing shaft. The web preferably has a T or an I profile.
The compensating molded part can be connected to the positive-locking part by means of a snap connection and in this case preferably has a groove or recess corresponding to the positive-locking part. It is simply plugged onto the form-fitting part until it engages in the groove or recess in the compensating part.
A particularly long-lasting connection is achieved if the compensating molded part is connected to the compensating mass in one casting process. In this case, it is particularly advantageous if the form-fitting part has at least one pourable opening or indentation and / or at least in sections a bow-like shape. The material of the compensating molded part flows behind the openings or indentations of the form-fitting part, so that there is an inseparable positive connection between the compensating molded part and the compensating mass.
Heat-resistant plastic can be used as the material for the compensating molded part. As an alternative to this, a particularly preferred embodiment variant of the invention provides that the compensating molded part consists of light metal, preferably of foamed light metal, particularly preferably of foamed aluminum.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the figures.
1 shows an oblique view of the balancer shaft according to the invention, FIG. 2 shows the balancer shaft in an exploded view, FIG. 3 shows the balancer shaft in a partial section through the balancing molded parts, and FIG. 4 shows the balancer shaft in a section along the line IV-IV in Fig. 3.
The balancing shaft 1 has balancing masses 2, 3, in the area of each balancing mass 2, 3, a balancing molded part 4, 5 with a lower mass is firmly connected to the balancing mass 2, 3 and supplements this to a circular cylindrical shape.
In order to achieve a positive connection between the balancing molded parts 4, 5 with the balancing masses 2, 3, the balancing shaft 1 in the area of each balancing mass 2, 3 has a positive locking part 6, 7, which is essentially in the direction of the axis la of the balancing shaft 1 arranged web 8.9 is formed. Each made in one piece with the balancing mass 2, 3
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Web 8.9 has an I-profile, as can be seen in FIG. 4. The web 8, 9 is connected on the one hand in a central region 10, 11 to the respective balancing mass 2, 3 and on the other hand with its ends 8a, 8b or 9a, 9b with shaft journals 12, 13, 14 of the balancing shaft 1.
The compensating molded parts 6, 7 have openings 8c, 9c or at least indentations which contribute to improving the form-fitting connection between compensating molded part 4.5 and compensating mass 2, 3. They can also have a bow-like shape, as can be seen from FIGS. 2 and 3.
In order to achieve a particularly permanent connection between the compensating molded parts 4, 5 and the compensating masses 2, 3, the compensating molded parts 4.5 are connected to the compensating shaft 1 in one casting process, the pourable material of the compensating molded parts 4.5, the positive locking parts 6, 7 flows around. As an alternative to this, the compensating molded parts 4, 5 can be designed with grooves 15, 16 or depressions corresponding to the positive locking parts 6, 7 and can be pushed onto the positive locking parts 6, 7 by means of a snap connection.
In both cases, a secure connection can be achieved without additional fastening elements with extremely little manufacturing effort.
