W092/22720, EP-A 0 276 037).
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
einzusetzen.

The invention relates to a double cylinder for a locking device, each with a cylinder core to be actuated by a key and by a preferably motor-operated rotary knob.
Normal double cylinders are operated from both sides with a key. So that the cylinder core can be rotated by means of the key, the tumblers are shifted through the key incisions, so that the separating surface between the spring-loaded pins in the cylinder housing and the pins in the cylinder core coincides with the outer surface of the cylinder core.
In the case of double cylinders of the type defined at the outset, only one cylinder core, usually the outer one, can be actuated by means of a key in the manner described. The other cylinder core cannot be locked with the surrounding housing, it only serves to transmit the rotary movement of a doorknob which is operated either by hand or by means of a motor to the locking lug of the door lock (cf.
W092 / 22720, EP-A 0 276 037).
Double cylinders are currently available in different versions, with only the outer dimensions of the cylinder core and the housing being standardized. Since the doors to be closed have different thicknesses, a series of cylinders with different lengths must be kept in stock for each cylinder type. The replacement of one of the lockable cylinder cores, which is provided in the known motor-operated double cylinders, causes the storage to be doubled, although electrically actuated cylinders
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
have only a small area of application and thus a small market share.
The invention has for its object to make the conversion of the electrically operated part of the lock necessary according to the prior art superfluous.
To achieve this, it is provided according to the invention that the cylinder core operated by the rotary knob has a locking mechanism which corresponds to that of the key-operated cylinder core, and that this locking mechanism is permanently unlocked by an inserted key.
In order to convert a conventional double cylinder, all that is necessary according to the invention is to permanently unlock one side of the cylinder using the associated key and to allow the known mechanism, for example according to EP-A 276 037, to engage the cylinder core thus unlocked. The permanently inserted key is preferably used to establish the connection between the cylinder core and the rotary knob. In this case, in order to make the coupling simple, it is advisable to separate most of the key handle.
The door knob or the motor can be attached to the door in various ways. The invention also makes it possible to implement this measure without having to convert the door or the door fitting. For this purpose, the rotary knob together with its electric or pneumatic drive, if provided, is mounted on a mounting flange which is fixed, for example, by clamping on the cylinder housing.

Further details of the invention are subsequently explained with reference to the drawing. 1 is a partially sectioned side view of an exemplary embodiment of the invention, FIG. 2 shows a detail from FIG. 1 in different views, and FIG. 3 shows a diagrammatic representation of the parts used to fasten the drive device on the cylinder housing.
It is essential for the invention to use an ordinary double cylinder, as shown in the left half of FIG. 1. This has a cylinder housing 12, in which cylinder cores 13 and 14 are mounted, through which a locking lug 19 is actuated. The locking mechanism actuated by the locking lug 19 is also structurally constructed in the usual way and is therefore not shown.
The cylinder core 13 should be unlockable in the usual way by means of a key and rotatable after unlocking. The actuation of the cylinder core 14, on the other hand, should take place via a rotary knob. This presupposes that the cylinder core 14 is made rotatable in the cylinder housing 12. According to the invention, this is achieved by continuously inserting a key 11 into the cylinder core 14 and unlocking it.
So that the cylinder core 14 can be rotated, it must be coupled to the shaft 4 of the rotary knob. In principle, this could be done directly, but preference is given to a drive which runs via the key 11, as will be illustrated in more detail below with reference to FIG. 2.
The shaft 4 of the rotary knob is driven on the one hand by means of the handle 9 via the bevel gear 5
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
either by means of the motor 1, which actuates the bevel gear 6 via a gear 2. The shaft 4 is supported by means of ball bearings in a holding frame 3, to which the housing of the motor 1 and transmission 2 is also fastened.
The actuation device for the double cylinder lock shown on the right in FIG. 1 is attached to the cylinder housing 12 by means of the mounting flange 10, as will be explained in more detail with reference to FIG. 3.
Fig. 2 shows in detail the transmission of the drive from the shaft 4 to the cylinder core 14. For this purpose, at the end of the shaft 4, a clutch disc 7 is rigidly attached, which carries a pin 15 in the middle and near its circumference two pins 16 acting as stops . An intermediate piece 8 is pivotably seated on the clutch disc 7 about the pin 15. The rotation of the intermediate piece 8 about the pin 15 is limited by the stops 16 on the clutch disc 7 to the size of the recesses which run along the circumference of the intermediate piece 8 on both sides. The connection of the intermediate piece 8 with the key 11 permanently inserted in the cylinder core 14 takes place via the extremely shortened grip part 18 of the key 11, which is received by the slot 17 in the intermediate piece 8.
Due to the arrangement shown, the key 11 and thus the cylinder core 14 participate in the rotational movement of the shaft 4 as soon as the stops 16 on the clutch disc 7 abut the delimitation of the recesses which are provided on the circumference of the intermediate piece 8. In the event of a reversal of direction, there is initially a freewheel.
In order to be able to operate a conventional double cylinder in the manner shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, it is not necessary to remove the cylinder core 14. Rather, it is sufficient to have a corresponding key 11 in it
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
to use. The actuating device (rotary knob with or without a motor) can also be fastened without major conversion measures, as can be seen in particular in FIG. 3. A mounting flange 10 is provided for this purpose, which is fastened to the cylinder housing 12 by clamping. The holding frame 3 for the rotary knob and its drive is firmly connected to the mounting flange 10.
