<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

Fig. 5B zeigt den Bereich X1 in Fig. 5A.

The invention relates to a method and a device for conditioning the coating on a roller in a paper machine.
A porous surface of a press roll tends to accumulate and be coated with the doctor material, such as epoxy. If the coating becomes excessive, the roll surface can become excessively smooth, which results in the separation of the paper web from the central roll of the press and the passage through the doctor blade being difficult, which leads to a tendency to tear off the web. Likewise, excessive roughening of the surface leads to a similar impairment of the work performance of the surface. The smoothing and roughening of the roll surface are particularly typical for a roll that has a ceramic coating material.
In order to keep the surface at its roughness value (RA value), which is optimal in terms of operation, the roll surface must be ground.
It is therefore proposed in the present application that the roll surface is conditioned at regular time intervals, on site and without removing the roll. In the solution according to the present invention, the doctor blade of the roller to be conditioned is provided with a separate grinding element which is attached to the actuators of the doctor blade and by means of the
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Squeegee is brought into contact with the surface to be sanded.
The elements comprise a counterpart, the shape of which almost matches the curve shape of the roll surface, with an abrasive belt and a separate soft cushion part being attached to the counterpart, and the cushion part having an elastic grinding result and taking into account any shape differences between the surfaces pressed against one another during grinding enables. The roller is ground in particular at its operating location.
In the solution according to the invention, it is essential that a grinding element is selected with which the grinding result is always correct, regardless of whether the surface is to be made smoother by grinding or whether an excessively smooth surface is to be roughened. Thus, according to the invention, a separate grinding element was selected in which the size of the diameter of the grinding particles is in the range from 15 to 200 μm. A diamond grinding belt is preferably used.
During grinding, the grinding element is oscillated in the axial direction of the roller, the oscillating device of the doctor blade being used for the oscillation. The grinding element is pressed against the surface to be ground with a force of approximately 100 ... 1200 N / m (force per unit length). The roller is rotated at a low peripheral speed of about 10 ... 200 m / min. A water jet is preferably applied to the roller surface so that the water film removes the ground material and acts as a coolant.
When a ceramic roller is referred to in the present application, this means in particular a roller with a ceramic or metal-ceramic coating. The coating material is preferably an oxide ceramic, for example A1, Ca, Cr, Mg, Si, Ti, Zn or Y-oxide, a carbide ceramic, for example Cr, Ni, Ti or W-carbide, a boride ceramic, for example Ti-boride, or one Mixture or combination of these. Metals can also be used under these ceramics
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
be alloyed, for example A1, Cr, Co, Fe, Mo, Ni, Si or alloys thereof.
The method and the device according to the invention are characterized by what is expressed in the protection claims.
The invention is explained below with reference to some preferred exemplary embodiments of the invention, which are shown in the figures of the accompanying drawing, but the invention is not intended to be limited to these exemplary embodiments.
Figure 1A is a schematic illustration of the smoothing of a roll surface.

FIG. 5B shows the area X1 in FIG. 5A.

FIG. 6B shows the area X2 in FIG. 6A.
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the attachment of the abrasive belt to the counterpart of the abrasive element, the construction of the counterpart being described with reference to the figure.
1A shows the cross-sectional structure of a ceramic roller surface in a surface smoothing process. The material shown in the figure by means of diagonal hatching represents the doctor blade material 11. In the smoothing process of the surface, in particular in a thermally sprayed surface, the sharp-edged recesses O1, 02 ..., which are produced in connection with the grinding, scratch the doctor blade material and as a result, the recesses O1, O2 tend to be filled.
This shows up as a smoothing of the surface.
Fig. 1B shows a second case in which the surface becomes rough. 1B, the doctor blade material 11 is represented by the hatched areas. When the number and size of the abrasive particles entering between the doctor blade and the roller are large, the particles begin to form
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
Scratch layer of squeegee material faster than it can be renewed. In this way, the layer of squeegee material is first broken open and then the ceramic layer can be roughened. A new flat surface is formed on the surface by means of a grinding treatment, which promotes the formation of a layer of doctor blade material.
In Fig. 2A, curve f1 represents the roughening of the surface, i. H. 1A in a coordinate system of surface roughness / transit time. During the running time, the surface roughness approaches a maximum value.
In the figure, curve f2 represents the tendency to smooth the surface. Depending on the individual case, the rate of change of the roughness can even vary to a noticeable extent. It was found that the maximum value approaches the RA value of 2 and the minimum value approaches the RA value of 0.2. In the state t1, the grinding is carried out according to the invention.
As shown in Fig. 2B, in the state g1, the surface is ground by means of the grinding member, the average size of the diameter of the particles, i.e. H. the diameter of the granulate (particle size) is in the range of 15 ... 200 m.
Regardless of whether the starting point is an excessively rough surface or an excessively smooth surface, the desired surface roughness is achieved. Curve f1 shows the smoothing of the rough surface that takes place during grinding, and curve f2 'shows the roughening of a smooth surface that takes place during grinding. The end result is achieved with a grinding time of around one to two hours.
3A is an illustration of the press section of a paper machine in a running state. The press section shown in Fig. 3A has a central roller 10 which with a
<Desc / Clms Page number 6>
ceramic coating is coated according to the invention.
There is a gap N1 between the press roll 12 and the counter roll 13, a gap N2 between the central roll 10 and the press roll 12 and a gap N3 between the central roll 10 and the counter roll 14. The felt H2 and the web W are passed through the gaps N1 and N2. In a corresponding manner, the felt H1 is guided through the gap N1 and over the felt guide rollers 15a1, 15a2. After the nip N2, the web is guided along the surface 10 'of the central roller 10, while adhering to the roller surface, into the nip N3, into which the felt H3 is also guided. The felt H3 is guided over the felt guide rolls 16a, 1 16a2. After the nip N3, the web is guided a certain distance along the roll surface 10 'of the central roll 10, whereby it is transferred via the roll 17 in connection with the felt H4. The felt H4 is guided over the felt guide roller 18.
Under these circumstances, good and accurate surface properties are required in the press roll operation so that the web W can be easily connected to the central roll and the web can be guided away from the central roll, for example in connection with a run and run condition. With regard to the quality of the paper produced, the properties of the roll surface are also essential. If changes in the surface values of the ceramic material occur, the running condition is no longer under control. Thus, it is proposed in the present application that the ceramic material should be ground periodically, i.e. H. at certain regular time intervals, for example in connection with suitable downtimes for changing the felt.
3B shows a method and an apparatus for grinding according to the invention. The gaps N1, N2, N3 have been opened and the central roller 10 is driven in creep mode by means of its own drive gear. Alternatively, the roller can be driven by driving a counter roller while the gap or gaps are closed. The direction of rotation of the roller is indicated by arrow D1. At the end of the squeegee 29 the
<Desc / Clms Page number 7>
Doctor device 19 has a grinding counterpart 20 in which the grinding element 21 is preferably a diamond grinding belt. The grinding belt 21 touches the surface 10 'to be ground over the circumferential length L.
It is essential that the length L is in the range of 7 ... 200 mm, preferably 10 ... 100 mm, in which case an appropriate amount of abrasive particles is in contact with the surface to be ground at any point on the circumference, and that, during grinding, the material to be ground does not exhaust the grinding element 21, so that changing the grinding element 21 during each grinding cycle can be avoided. Grinding takes about 1 ... 2 hours and no time breaks are required during grinding.
The peripheral speed of the roller 10 used in the grinding process is preferably in the range of 10 to 200 m / mm.
4A is a side view of the grinding assembly on an enlarged scale. The illustration is a sectional view taken along the line I-I in Fig. 4B. As shown in FIG. 4A, the doctor device 19 has a doctor bar 23 which is connected to a swivel arm 24. An actuating element 240, for example a cylinder arrangement or a threaded pin, is located between the swivel arm 24 and the frame F.
The actuating element 240 locks the squeegee bar 23 in the direction of rotation in the working position. Furthermore, the device solution comprises a swivel frame 26 which is connected to the projecting section 23 ′ of the doctor bar 23 and is pivotably fastened to an articulated connection 28. Load hoses 27a and 27b are arranged on both sides of the swivel joint 28 between the swivel frame 26 and the projection section 23 '. The swivel frame 26 can be swiveled on the swivel joint 28 by means of the loading hoses 27a, 27b (arrow L1). In this way, the squeegee 29
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
are pressed together with the grinding element 21 attached to it with a force in contact with the surface 10 'to be ground. The squeegee 29 is inserted into the cavity 26 'in the end of the swivel frame 26.
According to the invention, the grinding counterpart 20 is attached to the end of the doctor blade 29 through the articulation point 30. The grinding counterpart 20 comprises a grinding element 21, advantageously exactly one grinding belt, preferably a diamond grinding belt. The average particle size of the grinding particles in the grinding element 21 is in the range from 15 to 200 m /. In the figure, the jet pipe 22 generates a water jet S which is sprayed onto the surface to be ground, as a result of which the grinding material can be removed from the roller surface 10 'together with the water.
Fig. 4B shows the device of Fig. 4A seen in the direction of arrow K1 in Fig. 4A. The oscillation actuating element 31 is arranged to displace the shaft E1 of the doctor device 19, the shaft E1 being held in the bearing housing E2. The oscillation movement is represented by the arrows L2, L3.
5A is an enlarged view of the connection of the counterpart 20 and the grinding element 21 attached to the surface 10 'to be ground. The counterpart has a shape R1 which almost corresponds to the radius R2 of the roller 10. The doctor blade 29 of the doctor device is mounted in the groove 20a in the counterpart 20. The groove 20a runs in the counterpart 20 on its outer surface 20 "over the entire width of the roller 10 to be ground.
FIG. 5B shows the area X1 in FIG. 5A. The grinding belt 21 preferably contacts the roller surface 10 'over the circumferential length L. The length of the area L is advantageously in the range from 7 to 200 mm, preferably 10 to 100 mm.
<Desc / Clms Page number 9>
The cushioning material 25 is arranged between the grinding belt 21 and the grinding counterpart 20.
6A shows a second exemplary embodiment of the invention, in which an excessively wide doctor blade 29a is attached to the doctor device 19, the doctor blade 29a being flexible. The grinding belt 21 is fastened to the surface 29a 'of the doctor 29a and the cushioning material 25 is inserted between the grinding belt 21 and the doctor surface 29a' of the doctor 29a.
6B is an enlarged view of the area X2 in FIG.
6A.
Fig. 7 shows the shape of the abrasive counterpart 20 according to the invention and the attachment of the abrasive belt 21 and the cushioning material 25 to the curved surface 20 'of the abrasive counterpart 20. The shape R1 of the surface 20' corresponds almost to the radius R2 of the roller 10. In the In this arrangement, the grinding element 21 can adapt itself to the surface 10 'to be ground, so that any changes in the surface pressure which result from inaccuracies in the contact between the surface 10' to be ground and the grinding element 21 are compensated for in the grinding process. The abrasive counterpart 20 has a groove 20a on its outer surface 20 ″ into which the end of the squeegee 29 of the squeegee device 19 is inserted, an articulated connection 30 being formed between the squeegee 29 and the abrasive counterpart 20.
In such a case, the grinding counterpart 20 is guided as smoothly as possible in accordance with the surface shapes of the roller in the grinding process. The time for grinding is preferably one to two hours. The grinding belt 21 or any other grinding element is pressed with a force of 100 ... 1200 N / m against the roller surface 10 'to be ground and the roller is rotated at a peripheral speed of about 10 ... 200 m / min.

The invention relates to a method and a device for conditioning the coating (10 ') on a roller (10) in a paper machine, the coating being a ceramic or metal ceramic. The roller (10) is periodically ground by means of a grinding element (21), the grinding element (21) being attached to the doctor device (19) of the roller (10).
The grain size of the abrasive particles in the abrasive element (21), i.e. the average diameter of the particles is in the range of 15 ... 200). In the grinding process, the roller (10) is rotated at its operating location and the grinding element (21) is pressed with a force into contact with the surface to be ground, whereby if the surface to be ground is excessively rough, it is smoothed to the desired surface roughness value , and, in a corresponding manner, an excessively smooth surface is roughened to the desired surface roughness value, which is determined by the grinding element (21).
