Chopper.
The known chopping machines have the disadvantage that they cut the straw and the like very unevenly, because the knives, if they are not extremely sharp, bend the same over the cutting edge of the machine mouth and tear off or knock off, but not cut off.
The present invention relates to an innovation in the chopping machines which thoroughly remedies this drawback and ensures a uniform, safe cut even when the blades are blunt. For this purpose, the knives are initially no longer attached to the flywheel itself, as before, but directly to the shaft; furthermore, a frame is arranged in front of the machine jaw parallel to this, the inner opening of which corresponds exactly to the opening of the machine jaw and the lower edge exactly in at the same height as the cutting edge of the machine mouth. This frame protrudes so far from the machine jaw that the knife can rotate freely between the latter and the frame.
The straw or the like. rests not only on the cutting edge during the cut, but also on the lower leg of the frame and is consequently always gripped by the knives between two supports and is therefore safely

which prevents the previously annoying scattering of the cut material and directs it to only one place.
The drawing shows in Fig. 1 the front view of a chopping machine provided with this innovation with the flywheel removed. FIG. 2 shows the part dsst'Häcksetmaschino forming the innovation in plan; Fig. 3 is a section along 3-3 in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 shows the hood which is suspended from the frame and prevents the scattering of the cut material.
They are a the knives fastened directly to the drive shaft c by means of a disk b and d is the one in front of the machine mouth by means of a lateral tab d parallel to this, leaving a gap e serving for the passage of the rotating knives a (Fig. 2) fixed frame, the lower leg d2 of which lies exactly at the same height as the cutting edge ft of the machine mouth f and thus forms the second base for the ends of the straw or the like to be cut. is the flywheel, which is now seated separately from the blades a on the drive shaft, and h is the hood mentioned, which by means of the pins! (Fig. 4) can be hung in holes j on the thigh of the frame d and hanging in front of the frame d (Fig.
3), which directs the cut material emerging from this point downwards in the direction of the arrow to one point.
The way the innovation works is very simple. The material to be cut comes from the conveyor trough / f (FIG. 3) through the known device into the machine mouth f and into the opening of the frame d; the knives a now circle in FIG. 1

to be able to knock off.
