<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a system for the suction and cleaning of exhaust gases, in particular a hot-dip galvanizing system or the like, with a shaft raised above the galvanizing bath, the cross section of which at least at its lower edge corresponds to the outline of the galvanizing bath.
Due to the ever increasing demands of environmental protection and the related issues of cleaning exhaust gases from industrial plants and in particular from hot-dip galvanizing plants, there is a need for an effective exhaust gas cleaning system. A wide variety of suggestions for suction devices have therefore already been made. For example, DE-OS 2207603 proposes a suction device for zinc baths, in which the exhaust gases and metal mist are to be guided by air currents emanating from the edge of the galvanizing bath to a suction hood whose cross section at the lower edge corresponds at least to the outline of the bath. A suction hood completely surrounding a working container in which there is a liquid which emits harmful vapors or gases is known from DE-PS No. 967695.
A work opening is provided in the rotatably mounted extractor hood so that the work containers can be loaded. This arrangement is not suitable for galvanizing plants in which the objects to be galvanized are frequently moved continuously through the galvanizing bath.
The invention is based on the object of specifying a system of this type which, with the simplest construction, shows good effectiveness and whose operation is cheap.
According to the invention, this object is achieved with a system of the type specified above, which is characterized in that the shaft opens into a space whose cross-section is larger than that of the shaft, and that a chimney leading into the open also opens into the space.
The cleaning system according to the invention is extremely simple in its construction, but brings very considerable improvements in its effect. Compared to the previously known smoke evacuators, the system according to the invention also has the advantage that it has almost no energy requirement. Furthermore, the system according to the invention offers good protection of the workers employed in the galvanizing against metal splashes and a good discharge of the galvanizing smoke due to the shaft raised above the galvanizing bath.
Further details and advantages of the invention emerge from the following description of the exemplary embodiment shown schematically in the drawing.
In the floor of a galvanizing plant there is an elongated galvanizing bath - 1 - in which there is molten zinc --2--. The longitudinal direction of the galvanizing bath - l - runs perpendicular to the plane of the drawing. Above the upper edge --3-- of the galvanizing bath --1--, a shaft - 4 - is raised, the lower edge of which --4 '- from the upper edge --3-- of the galvanizing bath --1-- a distance of 1/2 to 1 m, preferably 70 cm, has. The cross section of the shaft --4-- corresponds at least in its
EMI1.1
can be.
The shaft --4-- opens into the upper area of a room - 6--, which is arranged above the ceiling --5-- of the galvanizing plant or built into it. The flow cross-section of the space --6-- is larger than the flow cross-section of the shaft - 4--, so that this space --6-- acts as a calming space for the incoming exhaust gas, which is greatly slowed down by the cross-sectional expansion.
A chimney --8-- leads from room --6-- into the open air, the mouth of which --9-- is located in the lower area of room --6-- Since the orifices --7 and 9 - are not only arranged in the vertical direction but also laterally offset from one another, the exhaust gas flow is deflected twice, as indicated by arrows in the drawing. As a result of this deflection of the exhaust gas flow in the room --6--, a significant part of the dust particles contained in the exhaust gas is deposited. Further remaining dust particles are held back by a filter --10--. Finally, at least one water spray nozzle -8- is arranged in the chimney, which enables the remaining cleaning of the flue gases.
Instead of water, saturated steam or another cleaning liquid, if necessary also a solution, can also be sprayed from the spray nozzles.
The heat developed by the galvanizing bath --1-- results in a good buoyancy in the shaft --4-- and in the chimney, which results in a large amount of exhaust gas, without the need for fans or blowers.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The exhaust gas that gets into the open through the upper end --12-- of the chimney --8-- is cleaned to such an extent that the surroundings are not polluted or neighbors are annoyed. The shaft --4-- is preferably made of sheet metal, whereas the chimney --8-- can be made of sheet metal or wood.
The cleaning effect of the system according to the invention is based on the fact that the gas flow in space --6 - is slowed down - because of its enlarged cross section - so that a substantial part of the dust carried along in the exhaust gas is precipitated by the diversion of the gas flow. The downstream filter is therefore only slightly stressed.
In addition to the system according to the invention, other exhaust gas purifications such. B. can also be used successfully in the partial flow process.
