Um ein Übertreten schädlicher Gase aus der Klosettleitung in die Hausleitong zu verhindern, hat man die Leitung, welche das Wasser zum Spülen der Schüssel aus der Hauptleitung nach der KlosettschUsscl fuhrt, mit Rohronterbrechungen ausgestattet oder aber in diese Leitung eine Luftsäule eingeschaltet, welche einerseits von dem Abschlussventil der Leitung, andererseits von dem Wasserverschluss des Klosettbeckens begrenzt wird.

Zwischen der Waserleitung w und der zu spülenden Klosettschüssel a ist ein heberartiges Rohr eingeschaltet, dessen stehender Schenkel b nicht unterbrochen ist und an dessen niedergehendem Schenkel c ein Luftventil d angeordnet ist. Dieses besteht z. D. aus einem Gehäuse, in welchem ein durch den Wasserdruck zu beeinflussender Ball aus olastischem Material sich befindet, der zwecks Abschlusses gegen die obere Öffnung des Gehäuses gedrückt wird. Ein Spritzrohr e ist auf diesem Luftvontil angebracht, um etwa ausspritzendos Wasser zu sammeln und wieder in die Spülleitung zurückfliessen zu lassen.
