Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Process for the production of calcium nitrate from alkaline chlorine-containing lyes, in particular from the final lyes of the ammonia soda factory.
An amount of sodium nitrate equivalent to the calcium chloride content is dissolved in the previously appropriately purified calcium chloride-containing lye and then the. Solution evaporated. Here, calcium chloride reacts with saltpetre in such a way that calcium nitrite and sodium chloride are formed, the latter precipitating with increasing concentration, which is expediently increased to the boiling point of 127o C, and can be separated from the solution, which mainly contains calcium nitrate. The mother liquor separated from the sodium chloride is evaporated further and calcium nitrate or basic calcium nitrate through the addition of milk of lime is obtained.
In various manufactures, large amounts of calcium chloride-containing final liquors are obtained, which for the most part are worthless, since there is no use for such large amounts of calcium chloride. The lye, which z. B. be raised in the ammonia soda fabrication, contain about two thirds of the solid salts as Ca Cl2 and a third! as Na ez. In some places, both salts are obtained from these by evaporation. But

Saltpeter can be used in agriculture.
In the special case of the final liquors in the ammonia soda production, the ratios are as follows: After the liquors have been cleaned of sludge and gypsum
