rich along a first inclined plane ending in the liquid bath, further along a section running a certain length in a straight line below the liquid level and along a second inclined plane leading out of the liquid bath again.
Such a design and guidance of the continuous conveyor can shorten the cooling time very considerably, avoiding changes in the structure of the rolling stock under tension.
It can then be set up in such a way that the rolling stock is first slowly cooled in air to a temperature just below a breakpoint on its cooling curve, for example --Ar 3 or Ar 2 - and then quickly brought to normal temperature in the liquid bath. As is well known, the cooling curves of metals show paragraphs, which are called breakpoints. At these points, the microstructure changes with further extraction of heat while the temperature remains the same. In order to avoid the formation of cracks, heat must be extracted evenly from these holding points over the entire workpiece, so that tension remains excluded. This is achieved with the proposed training in a simple manner and with security by the rolling stock, for.
B. to just below 900 C, namely the breakpoint-Ar 3-is cooled in air and then passed through the water bath until it is almost completely cool, the immersion of the rolling stock taking place simultaneously over its entire length. In this example, the stopping point --Ar 2-- is passed through during the water cooling, but - and this is the essential point - also evenly over the entire extent of the rolling stock, so that tensions and thus cracks are definitely avoided. Consequently, there is also no warping of the rolling stock. The absolute simultaneity of the immersion is ensured by the drivers. The rolling stock can be fed continuously or discontinuously to the water bath.
In the latter case, time differences will be avoided as much as possible, but differences of this type are of secondary importance because the heat exchange takes place considerably more slowly towards the end of the bath.
As a result of the guidance of the continuous conveyor, the rolling stock is lifted out of the water bath without any further means and is immediately transferred to a discharge roller table or in the area of a collecting channel.
The length of each inclined conveying plane is preferably approximately equal to the length of the horizontal conveying section lying below the liquid level. With an appropriate bath depth and cooling bed length, these conditions result in an appropriate routing of the continuous conveyor.
In the drawings, an embodiment of the invention is shown schematically and explained in more detail below. 1 shows the overall system schematically and FIG. 2 shows the design of the liquid cooling bed with feed and discharge roller tables and the bath conveying device in cross section.
According to FIG. 1, the rolling stock is placed on a roller table on a known air cooling bed

In Fig. 2, the liquid cooling bed is shown in more detail in cross section. The plunge pool is denoted by -4, the liquid level by -4a-. The rolling stock-5-coming from the roller table -2-is moved through the bath by means of a continuous conveyor -6- or its carriers -6a-. The continuous conveyor - 6 - has two deflection stations - 6b and 6c - below the bath level, by means of which the conveying path running in the bath is divided into a sloping, a horizontal and an ascending section.
The continuous conveyor can either work in cycles or continuously, so that the rolling stock --5-- from the position at --5b-- is quickly immersed in the liquid --4a--
