Die Mercaptane und Thiosduren sind aber nur sehr schwach sauer und wirken daher nicht schädigend auf die Hautsubstanz ein, worin sie sich von den Säuren, und zwar namentlich der Essigsäure, sowie von den Schwefelverbindungon, welche bei den be- kannten Verfahren gebildet werden, unterscheiden. Der Überschuss an Merkaptan und den etwaigen Schwefelverbindungen scheint auch als Lösungsmittel auf die die Gowebsfasern der Haut bindende Substanz zu wirken, wodurch das #Fallen" der Häute herbeigeführt wird.
Durch die durch diese Prozedur herbeigeführte alkoholische Gärung wird gegenüber dem bekannten Verfahren die Gefahr der Zerstörung der Hautsubstanz in grossem Masse vermindert, während andererseits die nicht gewünschten und schädlichen Substanzen aus den Häuten entfernt werden. Es scheint auch, dass zwischen dem Kalk und der Glukose eine gewisse Reaktion stattfindet, durch welche eine Ausführungsform gebildet wird. Die Anwendung von bisher zum Reinigen der Häute verwendeten unangenehmen, schädlichen und teueren Exkrementen wird durch das neue Verfahren völlig überflüssig gemacht.
PATENT-ANSPRÜCHE :
1. Verfahren zur Behandlung von Häuten, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass die Häute in einem Bade aus Schwefel nnd einem in Gärung befindlichen Kohlehydrat geweicht werden.

The mercaptans and thiosides are only very weakly acidic and therefore do not have a damaging effect on the skin substance, in which they differ from the acids, namely acetic acid, and from the sulfur compounds which are formed in the known processes. The excess of mercaptan and the possible sulfur compounds also seem to act as a solvent on the substance that binds the gowebs fibers of the skin, causing the skins to "fall".
The alcoholic fermentation brought about by this procedure greatly reduces the risk of destruction of the skin substance compared to the known method, while on the other hand the undesired and harmful substances are removed from the skins. It also appears that some reaction takes place between the lime and the glucose, which forms an embodiment. The use of unpleasant, harmful and expensive excrement previously used to clean the skins is made completely superfluous by the new method.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. Process for treating hides, characterized in that the hides are soaked in a bath of sulfur and a fermenting carbohydrate.
