EMI1.1
Beim Beispiel

pensegmente 7 sitzen, deren Stirnflächen 6 die Einpassfläche bilden.

1. EMI1.1
The invention relates to a light metal piston, the shaft of which is solid-walled in the area of the pin hubs and equipped with expansion-regulating heavy metal inserts, whereas recesses open on one side are provided between free-standing shaft flaps at the open end of the shaft, with longitudinal ribs serving to stiffen these shaft flaps, which extend in height into the full-walled shaft zone extend into it and in the part thereof facing the open shaft end there is also arranged a transverse rib, optionally interrupted in the area of the wing center.
The object on which the subject matter of the invention is based is to dimension the longitudinal ribs in such a piston to such an extent that the protruding ribs are sufficiently stiffened. So adhesive flap is guaranteed, regardless of the thickness of the longitudinal ribs, to dimension the possibly two-part transverse rib in such a way that it, in cooperation with the heavy metal inserts, ensures a favorable control of the thermal expansion aging of the piston shaft, and also to accommodate fitting surfaces in the full-walled shaft part so that through the wall parts supporting them neither affect the function of the longitudinal ribs nor that of the transverse ribs.
If the first two of these three requirements are met, one generally arrives at a construction in which the radial height of the longitudinal ribs exceeds that of the transverse rib. It is then no longer possible to use the end face of the transverse rib as a fitting surface in the otherwise usual manner, because a corresponding machining by turning is prohibited because of the protruding longitudinal ribs.
Removing the fitting surface from the area of the longitudinal ribs and providing it in the piston that is full-shafted over its entire length directly at the open end of the shaft is also not recommended, because otherwise deformations of the protruding shaft flaps would be to be feared when machining the piston. It is therefore easy to meet each and every one of the demands made, but it is very difficult to meet all demands at the same time.
According to the invention, these difficulties are circumvented in that a piston of the type mentioned is designed in such a way that the radial height of the transverse rib is smaller than that of the longitudinal ribs and that apart from the transverse rib below the pin bosses, but still fully walled. Relatively short transverse rib segments extending through the switching part are provided, which protrude beyond the longitudinal ribs in the radial direction and have mating surfaces on the end face for machining the piston. Such rib segments, which can optionally be designed as projections of the transverse rib, do not significantly impair the flexibility of the light metal shaft and therefore do not cause any undesirable change in the effect of the expansion-regulating inserts.
In the drawing, two exemplary embodiments are shown in FIGS. 1 and 3 or 2 and 4, half in longitudinal section and half in cross section, to illustrate the subject matter of the invention.
In both examples, the piston skirt 1 is lengthened in the area of the bearing surfaces by skirt flaps 2, for the reinforcement of which longitudinal ribs 3 of a relatively large radial height are provided. In the full-walled shaft part, sheet steel inserts 4 are cast which, together with the shaft wall made of light metal, form bimetal elements which bend when heated and thereby regulate the thermal expansion behavior of the shaft. In order to modify this regulation, in the example according to FIGS. 1 and 3, transverse ribs 5 running in a known manner along the lower edges of the inserts 4 are provided, the radial height of which is smaller than that of the longitudinal ribs 3.
A fitting surface is formed on the end faces 6 by rib segments 7, which are arranged below the transverse ribs 5 and are designed to be radially higher than the longitudinal ribs 3. In the example
