Austrian process for the representation of iron chrome colors.
The present process has the advantage over the methods known up to now of allowing technically complete precipitation of the chromic acid used. When the chromium salt is precipitated with sulphate of iron oxide with the addition of potash, ninth acidic iron oxide is apparently formed, which is formed with double-chromate of potassium

Instead of carbonate of potassium, one can also take potassium hydroxide hydrate or other oxides or carbonate salts of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, magnesium, ammonia or alumina hydrate and, depending on the use, a wide variety of materials are obtained
Nuances. ! ! When adding oxides or salts of the alkaline earth metals, it is advisable to add iron chloride to prevent the precipitation of calcium sulphate or barium in the paint.
The above analysis shows that the complete precipitation of the applied
Chromic acid is due to the formation of a chromic acid iron oxide compound containing potassium, which was previously unknown as a color. Instead of potassium chromate, one could also use chromic acid sodium with a corresponding addition of a potassium compound. The chromium iron paints produced up to now under the name siderein yellow did not contain any potassium, as can be seen from the following: Rud.
Kayser (Mitt. Des bayer. Gewerbemuseums zu Nürnberg "1875, p. 42) is the light orange-colored precipitate, which is produced by the precipitation of a solution of neutral chrome

turned chromium salt remain unprecipitated in solution, u. between so-called chromic potassium and simply chromic potassium.
Undoubtedly, this fact is the reason that the siderin yellow is not on the market, since the earlier processes were not suitable to allow the use of the expensive chromium salt, while according to the present process a technically complete use of it takes place, only traces of it remain in solution
The chrome iron paints produced according to the present process have the advantage over yellow paints produced up to now from colored wood and aniline paints that they are very lightfast. They are used extensively in the wallpaper and colored paper industry for lithography and typography, for decorative painting, etc. The light yellow nuances, when mixed with Parisian blue, give beautiful greens that have the advantage of being lead-free over chrome green.
