Hydrocarbons and subsequent saponification.

Centrifuges to make the separation even more complete. The separated unsaponifiable material is continuously returned to the oxidation room.
The separated soap, which contains small amounts of unsaponifiables, can be worked up in various ways. The soap solution is expediently evaporated, dried and then freed from the unsaponifiable material with solvents such as acetone or ethyl acetate. The unsaponifiable fractions thus separated from the saponification are also returned to the oxidation chamber.
Apart from the fact that it is already very valuable to carry out the oxidation of the paraffins and the processing of the oxidation products continuously, it is possible to set a certain oxidation level with the device used according to the invention and to bring about a gentle oxidation. A good yield of valuable substances is obtained.
The arrangement of a plant according to the invention is shown in the attached schematic drawing. The hydrocarbons are introduced into a storage container A and heated above their melting point by means of the steam coil B. They are heated to the reaction temperature through the steam-heated pipe C and thus reach the oxidation space D. There, finely divided air is blown in through the pipe E. The impeller F, which sits in a cylinder G, causes circulation in the manner indicated. The vessel can be heated by the steam coil H and cooled by the water cooling system I. The escaping volatile components are separated in the condensation system X.
The reaction mixture passes from the vessel D through the three saponification containers Lj, and L3, which are provided with stirring devices and which are heated with steam (MI, M2, M3). Sodium hydroxide solution flows continuously from the storage container N to the reaction material in the container Li. The product reaches the centrifuge 0 from the saponification vessel L3. The unsaponified material is pumped back through the line P into the oxidation vessel D. The saponified material arrives at the thin-layer evaporator Q and from there to the extraction system R. There the dry soap is continuously produced; on the other hand, the extracted unsaponifiable material is returned to the oxidation chamber D through line S after the solvent has been separated off.
