Description
Process for the production of wool fatty alcohols and wool fatty acids. The realization that what is unsaponifiable in wool fat as such is its high water absorption capacity the latter is based on (patent 1678q.9), as well as the waxy texture and the drying ability (patent 253965) of this unsaponifiables are of interest the ointment technology and the artificial wax industry. The technically and factory-worthy isolation of this substance and its separation of the fatty acids, however, failed due to one of the waxy nature of wool fat sprung intuition. As long as one is the breakdown of the wool fat as only makes one type of wax with alcoholic alkalis, the separation is limited of the unsaponifiable from the fatty acids only to the scientific, analytical Measures; for this purpose it is done by precipitating it with water heavily diluted alcoholic saponificate with calcium salts and extraction of the dry one Precipitation with solvents, whereby the alcohols go into solution, and the lime soaps remain unsolved. The extraction of the actual Alkalisaponiäkats itself can as is well known, only by undressing its spiritual solution with water-insoluble Solvents happen because the soap is strong by distilling off the alcohol as a result Foaming and overflowing cannot be obtained dry. But also this procedure is imperfect because in the presence of alcohol there are significant amounts of soap in the extract of the unsaponifiable. But that such procedures on a large scale, on a factory scale Operations cannot be carried out in a profitable manner is obvious.
.The procedure according to the main patent has now brought about the possibility to break down the wool fat without organic solvents and thus the saponification product Obtainable in a dry and easy to process condition. The thus obtained Soap mass can contain solvents in which only the unsaponifiable, but not the alkali soap is soluble, e.g. B. ether, acetone and the like easily into their components, d. H. into soap and unsaponifiables, according to the example given there. .
It is known that tallow alkali soaps can be removed from any contained therein ether-soluble substances, such as superfatting agents and the like, by extraction with ether can separate. But tallow (stearin, palmitin, olein) soaps can be used to common wax soaps with regard to their solubility behavior from the outset to draw no sure conclusion, this is the case with the most complicated of all types of wax, Especially with wool fat, which is known to contain none of the three tallow fatty acids not possible. Only after experimental and analytical findings and the Subsequent experiments showed that the soaps of the extremely numerous fatty acids, mostly unknown until recently of wool fat in certain means. insoluble, while the unsaponifiable parts are soluble in it.
A particular advantage of the process is that you don't need it has to first expose the fatty acids that fall off in order to utilize them. Because the insoluble extraction material is not more soap-like, but more waxy Natural, completely dry, pulverizable and in alcohol, gasoline, turpentine oil and the like. is soluble, it can be easily used in floor polish, impregnation and lacquer technology can already be used well as such, analogous to the lime soap of patent 23450z.
An example of the present process is roughly as follows: The appropriately reduced saponification product is poured into the appropriate container of the known extraction apparatus, from the boiling chamber of which the solvent is sent through the apparatus cooler into the extractor. If the extraction material is completely covered by the liquid, depending on the temperature there and the nature of the solvent, it absorbs considerable quantities of the unsaponifiables that are soluble in it and then runs back into the boiling vessel, from where its vapors are again liquefied by the cooler get into the extractor. This circulation is continued until a sample of the extraction material is approximately or completely freed from the unsaponifiable, which can be determined in a known manner. , After distilling off the solvent, the extract, the Unvexseifbare as a thick 01 back, which solidifies on cooling to a waxy mass remains. In this state, the extraction material can be used for the purposes mentioned or after the fatty acid has been exposed.
The solvents that can still be used industrially have also proven to be useful Alcohols such as B. Spirit or wood spirit, or mixtures of the same proven; by name, if it is about soda saponification. With these solvents plays in this one If the temperature prevailing in the extractor plays an important role, it is appropriate must be kept between 4o and 50 ° C.
Because you don't use an absolute, chemically pure solvent in a large company can count on, smaller amounts of soap can also be dissolved as a result, which are removed in the usual way or, as experience shows, they are the most technical Use of the wool fatty alcohols do not do any harm, even in it, left can be.
The yields of the extract and extraction material are almost free of losses in the known ratio of the unsaponifiable to the fatty acids of the respective type of wool fat.
