Description
Process for the refining of fatty oils, fats and waxes from Type of Esters The invention relates to a process for refining fats Oils, fats and waxes of the ester type and consists in that which is to be refined Products with such amounts of one or more alkylolamines, such as monoethanolamine, Diethanolamine, triethanolamine, and the like can be treated as forming layers are required, after which the layer of the cleaned product from which the impurities, in particular free fatty acids, aldehydes, nitrogen compounds ,. Dyes and Like., Containing layer is separated. The alkylolamines, which optionally can be used in a mixture with ammonia, which can be used in any ratio Lets mix them are very good solvents for the contamination of fats oils, fats and waxes of the ester type, while the fatty acid glycerides and the waxes themselves are hardly soluble in them. The alkylolamine layers that the Containing impurities in the starting material can be easily regenerated by distillation, advantageously under reduced pressure and using Water vapor, whereby the alkvlolamine soaps formed from the fatty acids are restored be split. The refined product can still contain small amounts of alkylolamine contain. This can be removed by heating under reduced air pressure, by blowing with an inert gas or by washing with water in which the alkylolamines are soluble. If the feedstock to be refined is low in fatty acid, recommends refining with alkylolamines, the alkylolamine soaps included, because then the separation of the layers that are formed can be carried out more easily is.
Technical triethanolamine is already used to neutralize castor oil suggested. For this purpose, such amounts of triethanolamine are added to the castor oil added as needed to envelope methyl orange. The one with it The soaps obtained remain dissolved in the oil, which has a higher viscosity than the starting product Has.
Fundamentally different from this is the new procedure, which is not a neutralization of the acids of oils, which is carried out so far, that the neutralization products formed remain in the oil, but a refining process, d. H. removal of the neutralization products formed besides other impurities, from the oils. Larger amounts are used for this purpose of alkylolamine than is only required for neutralization. In this case receives After the treatment, the oil is stratified, resulting in a smooth separation of the refined oil from the alkylolamine layer in which the soaps are located coloring constituents, aldehydic and nitrogen-containing bodies of the starting material Find.
Example crude cottonseed oil, the coloring ingredients, other impurities usual type and contains about 81 [, free fatty acid, at about 4.00 C with about treated one third of its volume monoethanolamine. The higher temperature will therefore chosen in order to better separate the reaction mixture into two phases bring about that is easier to do when the viscosities of the used Liquids are lower, which is the case with increased temperature. The two Phases are separated from each other. The oil has a pharmaceutical color Regulations. The oil is neutral and has a pleasant taste.
The monoethanolamine layer is placed in a suitable device in which a high vacuum of about 25 to 30 mm of mercury can be maintained. It is heated and superheated steam at about 120 ° C is passed through the heated liquid. The vapors pass through a rectifying column of the usual type, in which pure monoethanolamine is separated from the water formed by condensation of the water vapor by fractionation. The water passes over from the column, while the monoethanolamine is obtained as bottom liquid, which is returned for further extraction. Fatty acids and other extracted impurities remain in the still, which can optionally be worked up. The process can be carried out as a cycle process in which the material to be cleaned is treated according to the countercurrent principle with alky lolamines as extraction agents.
The temperature during the extraction must be chosen so that the material to be refined is liquid. For coconut oil, the temperature is around 35 ° C. It is also advantageous to count temperatures that allow rapid separation allow the two phases of each other, which depends on the viscosities and the differences in the specific gravity of the two phases.
The commercially available monoethanolamine and the other ethanolamines can contain about 5 ° 1o water. The presence of such amounts of water does no harm. If larger amounts of water are present, strong emulsification easily occurs one that creates difficulties in the subsequent separation of the layers and is therefore appropriately avoided. The allowable amount of water depends in each case depends on the type of material to be refined. With advantage will naturally worked with practically anhydrous alkylolamine.
