   Österreichische PATENTSCHRIFT Nu-"15495.

FARBENFABRIKEN VORM, FRIEDR. BAYER & Co. IN ELBERFELD.

Beispiel 1. 50 g nuc1einsaures Natrium beliebigen Ursprungs (z. H. aus herrings-

FARBENFABRIKEN VORM, FRIEDR. BAYER & Co. IN ELBERFELD. Process for the preparation of formaldehyde compounds of nucleic acids and their phosphoric acid-containing degradation products.

It was found that the nucleic acids (both animal and vegetable origin) and their phosphoric acid-containing degradation products, such as. B. Nudeothymic acid and thymic acid, have the property of combining directly with formaldehyde. The new bodies thus obtainable form yellowish-white to brown, undecomposed stable powders, the alkali salts of which are easily soluble in water. I) The aqueous solutions of the salts are also stable in the cold, but they split off formaldehyde when heated on the water bath. Because the formaldehyde is relatively loosely bound in these preparations, it can easily develop its effect in the body, which is why these new compounds have very valuable therapeutic properties.

The new method is illustrated by the following examples:
Example 1. 50 g of sodium nucleic acid of any origin (e.g. from herrings-
