Device for displaying the wear and tear of carbon brushes in electric motors.
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The intermediate layer rests on a base plate 23 which is carried by a sheet metal cylinder 24 concentrically surrounding the motor. On the commutator 25 of the motor 21, the carbon brushes 26 used for power supply slide, each of which is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner in a guide bushing 27, which is secured with the interposition of an insulating layer 28 in the end plate 29 of the motor. On the end of the guide bushing 27 is a cap 30 made of transparent material, for. B. glass, molded material or the like., Screwed on. This cap is used for fastening and as a counter bearing for the compression spring 31 which is mounted in the guide bushing and which presses the carbon brush against the commutator 25.
An annular disk 32 is inserted between the guide bush 27 and the cap 30, against which the spring 31 rests. In the end piece of the carbon brush which is used for supplying power, a rod 33 is now inserted, which lies in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the carbon brush and which extends into the cavity of the cap 30, which is approximately as long as the carbon brush. At the end of this rod 33 a pointer mark 34, advantageously colored approximately red, is attached. On the transparent cap 30 there is also an appropriately red-colored identification mark 35 located transversely to the pin 33, which indicates how far the pin or the pointer mark 34 sitting on the pin 33 may move until the carbon brush 26 is worn and their renewal must be made.
In this case, the operator only needs to unscrew the cap 30 and remove the carbon brush 26, including the parts 31, 32, 33 and 34 seated on it, and replace it with a new carbon brush. The cap 30 can easily be screwed back onto the guide bushing 27.
The distance from the pointer mark 34 to the pressure plate 32 is advantageously dimensioned so that it is somewhat smaller than the length of the carbon brush 26. Furthermore, if the opening width of the printing plate 32 is smaller than the diameter of the pointer mark 34, the carbon brush 26 can only be advanced by the spring 31 until the pointer mark 34 strikes the pressure plate 32.
The further advance of the carbon brush is automatically prevented in this way and damage to the commutator by the advance spring 31 is definitely avoided.
Another embodiment of the invention can also consist in that the guide bushing of the brush holder with recesses, for. B. one or more slot-like openings, through which you can observe the advance of the carbon brush. The operator is then readily able to occasionally, e.g. B. od when cleaning the implement in question. Like. To determine the degree of wear of the carbon brushes and, if necessary, to replace the brushes. Such an arrangement is particularly simple and cheap.
The openings can have various shapes, e.g. B. be designed as longitudinal slots.
Furthermore, the openings can also od in order to prevent the ingress of dust. Like. In the guide bushing, through a transparent material, for. B. Glass, molded material or the like. Be closed.
A particularly favorable arrangement also consists in the fact that the guide bushing for the carbon brush has a slot-like opening lying transversely to the longitudinal axis of the bushing. This arrangement has the advantage that the cavity used for guiding the bushing of the carbon brush absolutely retains its rectangular cross-section, so that no lateral jamming or the like can occur during operation, which would impair the steady advance of the carbon brush.
In Fig. 2, an embodiment of the invention is shown in longitudinal section. 41 is a carbon brush that z. B. has a round or rectangular cross-section and is guided in the metallic guide bushing 42. The guide bushing is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 43 which is mounted in a bracket 44 or the like. The guide bushing 42 is closed at the end by a screw-off cap 45, usually made of insulating material. The carbon brush 41 is pressed against the collector 47 by the feed spring 46 in a known manner. The guide bushing 42 is now provided with a transverse slot 48 in the vicinity of the end located towards the collector, through which the sliding forward of the carbon brush 41 can be observed.
The slot is positioned so that it is not covered by other parts of the motor. The progressive wear and tear of the carbon brush 41 can be observed through this slot, which can optionally be achieved in that special marks, horizontal lines or the like are indicated on the carbon brush.
By such an arrangement it is therefore possible for the timely replacement of the carbon brushes, for. B. with vacuum cleaners to take care.
