Device, which enables the monitoring of the wear and tear of carbon brushes in particular in closed brush holders in electric motors. In the case of electric motors, especially those of a smaller size, such as those used for household appliances, for example: the carbon brushes used to supply power to: the collector are usually guided in: closed, insulated brush holders.
There is a certain inconvenience here in that it is not easy to see from the outside when the carbon brush is so worn out that it has to be replaced by a new one. In order to determine the degree of wear and tear, one is forced to take the carbon brush out of the brush holder several times for the purpose of checking, which is usually omitted.
The result is .then. that after complete wear: the carbon brush is finally used to feed: the carbon brush: d: e compression spring up: the collector grinds and this may be considerably damaged as a result.
It has been suggested that: to eliminate this drawback that the brush or. Devices are provided for the brush holder, -which, when the carbon brush: is worn, ensure: that the remaining rope: of the brush is lifted off the commutator: With the small dimensions of the carbon brushes, the installation of such arrangements is not feasible in all cases and is also difficult and relatively expensive.
In the fol lowing a device is shown which, without the need to take the brush holder apart, can easily recognize the current level of wear of the coal from the outside.
According to the invention, means are provided for this purpose which: let you know the displacement of the same, which occurs as a result of the wear and tear of the carbon brush, at the latest towards the end of the permissible brush advance.
1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention in a longitudinal section. 1 is the commutator of an electric motor on which the carbon brushes used for power supply slide. For the sake of simplicity, only one carbon brush is shown in the drawing. The carbon brush 2 is mounted in a longitudinally displaceable manner in a guide bushing 3 which is attached in an engine part 5 with an insulating layer -1 in between. On the end of the guide bush 3 is a cap 6 made of transparent material, for. B.
Urea, glass, pressed material or the like, screwed on. This cap, however, is primarily used for fastening and as a counter bearing for the compression spring 7, which presses the carbon brush 2 against the commutator 1. Appropriately, a disk-shaped plate 8 is attached at the point of the cap on which the spring 7 rests.
The end of the carbon brush \? now has a bore into which the existing rod 9, for example made of insulating material, is inserted, which extends through an opening in the plate 8 into the cavity of the cap 6, which is approximately as long as the carbon brush. At the end of the rod 9 a red pointer mark 10 is attached.
On the cap 6 is. an expedient also red colored and transversely to the pin 9 located identification mark 11 is attached, which indicates how far the pointer mark 10 sitting on the pin 9 may move ver until the carbon brush 2 is used abge and its renewal must be made. Is due to wear of the coal by the commutator 1, the pointer mark 10 advances to the marker 11, the operator needs to unscrew on only the cap 6 and remove the carbon brush 2 including the parts 7, 8 and 9 sitting on it and to replace it with a new carbon brush and then screw the cap 6 onto the guide bush 3 again.
The distance from the pointer mark 10 to the pressure plate 8 is chosen so that it is slightly smaller than the length of the carbon brush itself. Even if the timely replacement of the carbon brush is forgotten in such a device, in this case no damage to the commutator by the feed spring 7 can occur; because the carbon brush can then only be advanced far until the pointer mark 10 hits the pressure plate 8. It hears. so that the further advance of the carbon brush by the spring 7 automatically opens.
It is especially useful. the hands now. To cover identification marks with distinctive colors respectively. train self-luminous.
If necessary, instead of the red identification mark 11, a wider one can be used. z. B. red colored stripes on the cap 6 are attached. in such a way that the edge of the strip facing the center of the commutator indicates the relevant end position of the pointer. Since before the pointer has reached this end position, attention can be drawn to the fact that the permissible degree of wear of the brush will soon be reached.
Should such a device for motors surrounded by a protective housing, so z. B. find drive motors of vacuum cleaners, Venvendunz, it is advantageous to order 5o that the end cap of the brush holder is so long that it protrudes from the protective housing. You can then easily see the wear and tear on the power supply: sbrst: e without the need to remove the hat.
In the figure? is a Ausführungsbei game of this type in elevation and partially shown in section. 21 is the drive motor of a vacuum cleaner, which is mounted on an elastic intermediate layer 2: 2. This elastic cal intermediate layer rests on a base plate 23 which is carried by a sheet metal cylinder 2-1 concentrically surrounding the motor.
On the commutator 25 of the motor 21 grind the serving for power supply carbon brushes 26, each of which is mounted in a guide bushing 27 longitudinally displaceable, the layer with the interposition of an insulating. 28 is fixed in the end plate 29 of the motor. On the end of the Füh approximately bushing 27 is a cap 30 made of through visible material, for. B. glass, pressed material or the like, screwed on.
This cap is used for fastening and as a counter bearing for the compression spring 31 mounted in the guide bushing, which presses the carbon brush onto the commutator 25. Between Füh approximately bushing 2.7 and cap 30, a ring-shaped disc 32 is inserted against which the spring 31 lays. In the end piece of the carbon brush serving for Stromzufüh tion, only one rod 33 lying in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the carbon brush is inserted; which is approximately as long as the carbon brush formed cavity .der cap 30 reaches out. At the end of this rod 33 an advantageous red colored pointer mark 34 is brought.
On the transparent cap 30 is also an appropriate also red colored and transversely, attached to the pin 33 seated identification mark 35, which indicates how far the pin BEZW. the pointer mark 34 sitting on the pin 33 is allowed to move until the carbon brush 26 is worn out and must be replaced.
In this case, the operator only needs to unscrew the cap 30 and remove the carbon brush 216 including the parts 31, 32, 33 and 34 that sit on it and replace it with a new carbon brush. The cap 30 can easily be screwed back onto the guide bushing 27.
The distance from the pointer mark 34 to the pressure plate 32 is advantageously measured so that it is slightly smaller than the length of the carbon brush 26. Furthermore, if the opening width of the pressure plate 32 is smaller than the diameter of the pointer mark 34, the carbon brush 26 can only be advanced by the spring 31 until the pointer mark 34 hits the pressure plate 32.
The further advance of the carbon brush is automatically prevented in this way and damage to the commutator by the advance spring 31 is definitely avoided. Another embodiment of the invention can also consist in the fact that the guide bushing of the brush holder is provided with cutouts through which the advance of the carbon brush can be observed. The operator is then without wei teres in the day, occasionally, z.
B. when cleaning the relevant tool or - the like to determine the degree of wear of the carbon brushes and if necessary to replace the brushes. Such an arrangement is special, simple and cheap.
The openings can have various shapes, e.g. B. be formed as longitudinal slots .aus. Furthermore, the openings can also, in order to prevent the ingress of dust or the like into the guide bushing, -through a transparent material, e.g. B. glass, pressed material or the like, closed .be.
In Fig. 3 is another Ausfüh approximately example of the invention shown in longitudinal section. 41 is a carbon brush that z. B. has a round or rectangular cross-section and is guided in the metallic guide bushing 42. The guide bushing is surrounded by an insulating sleeve 43 which is mounted in a bracket 44 or the like. The guide bushing 42 is closed at the end by a screw cap 45 usually made of insulating material.
The carbon brush 41 is pressed against the collector 47 by the feed spring 46 in a known manner. The guide bushing 42 is now in the vicinity of the emdes laid down towards the collector see ver with a transverse slot 48 through which one can observe the forward sliding of the wearing carbon brush 41 ob. The slot is positioned so that it is not covered by other parts of the motor.
The progressive wear and tear of the carbon brush 41 can be observed through this slot, which, if necessary, can be facilitated by the fact that different marks, lines or the like are indicated on the carbon brush. Such an arrangement also makes it possible for
the timely replacement of the carbon brushes, e.g. B. with vacuum cleaners. To take care.
