Description

Electrical resistor provided with connection contacts with a negative temperature coefficient and process for its production.

The invention relates to a resistor with a negative temperature coefficient, which by
Sintering a mixture containing silicon or a silicon alloy, the silicon content of which is greater than the remaining part, is produced.

In the case of such and similar resistors made from sintered materials, the attachment of reliable contacts which do not give undesired contact resistance causes considerable difficulties, and various methods have been proposed to overcome these, which relate to resistances made from low oxides of chromium or uranium. It has been pointed out that sintering the metal and carbon together leads to an undesirable result because of the formation of the carbide.

It has now been found that resistors with reliable connection contacts can be produced in such a way that the ends guaranteeing a good contact are already provided in the production process of the resistor itself. According to the invention, electrical resistors provided with connection contacts with negative temperature coefficients are produced from sintered semiconducting mixtures containing excess silicon by sintering the carbon bodies intended for the formation of the contacts, for example graphite blocks, with the resistance material. The invention is explained below using an exemplary embodiment:
50 g of high silicon ferrosilicon, e.g.

   B. 98%, is brought into powder form, sieved and then mixed with 10 g of clay and 50 mg of tragacanth, also in powder form, with the addition of 7 Cln3 water until a homogeneous paste has been obtained, which is pressed in the form of sticks 1; During this treatment, the graphite blocks 2 are pressed on at the same time. The rods 1 thus provided with graphite contacts 2 are then dried in air for a few hours and then heated to a temperature of 1300 ° C. in a reducing gas atmosphere for approximately 60 minutes, the material sintering. In this case, the graphite contacts are firmly connected to the silicon-containing resistor material and do not have any obstructive contact resistance.

You can continue with z. B. made of nickel rods 3 for the power supply.

To explain this, the fact that with an excess of silicon in the resistor material it is achieved that the resistance value is high at room temperature but low at operating temperature, so that a negative temperature coefficient of high value is created.
