<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Lubricator for refrigeration compressors.
To eliminate the sealing difficulties of the stuffing box of refrigeration compressors of refrigeration systems with low-boiling refrigerant, it has already been proposed to utilize the lubricant separated from the refrigerant circuit in such a way that the separated
Lubricant fed to a reservoir from which it flows under pressure into the annular space of a stuffing box sealing the drive shaft against the crankcase. In this way one achieved the advantage that the stuffing box of the drive shaft only had to be tight against pressure and not against negative pressure and could be constantly supplied with lubricant, but it was still not possible to achieve proper operation of the refrigeration compressor.
This was mainly due to the fact that the regular lubricant circulation through the
The reservoir and the stuffing box opposed two uncertainties. On the one hand, the amount of lubricant that is entrained into the circuit depends on the running times of the compressor, which are irregular as a result of the changing refrigeration requirements and cannot be calculated in advance; on the other hand, it is not in hand, the amount of lubricant, which flows back into the crankcase from the reservoir via the pressure stuffing box, to be precisely controlled, as this depends on the degree of tightness of the stuffing box, which depends on the service life of the stuffing box and under external influences,
like especially the temperature, changes strongly.
These drawbacks could not be eliminated by looking at the amount that was carried away
Lubricant, for example through the choice of the dimensions of the pump provided for the lubrication of the piston pin or the total amount of lubricant in the crankcase, could in any case be significantly larger or significantly smaller than the return flow expected in the stuffing box.
In this case, the case in which the amount of entrained lubricant is measured to be smaller than the return flow through the pressure stuffing box must be ruled out for operational reasons, since the stuffing box then cannot run dry, which calls its sealing effect into question.
But even the other possible case of measuring the amount of entrained lubricant, according to which it could be set from the outset to be significantly greater than the return flow expected through the pressure stuffing box, was not suitable for eliminating all difficulties, since the stuffing box was then probably constantly supplied with lubricant, However, an accumulation of the lubricant in the storage tank and a backlog of its abundant inflowing quantity could not be avoided, which latter resulted in the risk of valve ruptures and a reduction in the refrigeration capacity of the entire unit as a result of the deposit of lubricant in the condenser and evaporator.
Even a large size of the lubricant storage tank could not eliminate the difficulties that occurred here, since it could not be avoided that ultimately all the lubricant was collected in this large storage tank and the crankcase and the other parts of the compressor to be lubricated were therefore not supplied with sufficient lubricant.
Furthermore, a refrigeration compressor is known in which the lubricant is fed by a pump to a reservoir which is in communication with the crank chamber through an overflow and with the annular chamber of a stuffing box sealing the crankshaft through another line. Apart from the fact that this known device requires a special lubrication pump, which has the disadvantage of increasing manufacturing costs and increasing the possibility of interference, with this known arrangement the sealing difficulties of the stuffing boxes of refrigeration compressors for cooling systems with low-boiling refrigerant could not be eliminated,
when the reservoir of the lubricant was in connection with the crankcase and therefore a conversion of the sealing of the stuffing box against vacuum into one against pressure can never be achieved. Such a device could therefore not be used for cooling systems with low-boiling refrigerants.
To eliminate the difficulties of sealing the stuffing box of refrigeration compressors of refrigeration systems with low-boiling refrigerant, the invention is based on the known arrangement described above, in which the lubricant is deposited on the pressure side of the compressor and fed to a storage container, from which it is pressurized into the annulus the drive shaft against the crankcase sealing gland flows, and essentially consists in that an overflow line leading from the reservoir to the crankcase is arranged, which is monitored by a drain valve to prevent pressure equalization between the two spaces.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
With such a device there is an absolute guarantee that the pressure stuffing box is constantly supplied with lubricant, as this can be kept in ample circulation without the risk of backflows and lubricant deposits, since the amount of lubricant that does not flow through the pressure stuffing box is periodically fed directly to the crankcase through the drain valve.
The invention is explained using an exemplary embodiment in the drawing.
In the case of the refrigerant compressor shown, the refrigerant vapor is sucked in through the nozzle 1 of the piston 2, compressed and pressed through the line 3, 4 into the condenser. The lubricant separator 5, in which the lubricant absorbed by the gas in the crankcase 6 is separated, is arranged between the lines 3 and 4. This separator 5 is assembled with the template 7 for the lantern 8 of the stuffing box 9 and forms a storage container for the separated lubricant.
This therefore collects in the template 7 and is below the in the
Line 3, 4 prevailing overpressure. This overpressure continues into the packing 10 of the stuffing box, so that there is overpressure from the lantern both towards the crankcase and towards the flywheel side. The packing must therefore only be designed on this side in such a way that it is sealed against the lubricant (glycerine), which is much easier to achieve than to seal against negative pressure.
The separator 5 has a drain valve 11, which opens when a certain liquid level is reached in the collecting space of the separator and allows the lubricant to flow back through the overflow line 12 into the crankcase.
