<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Process for the production of backs for bristle brushes made of elastic material and metal mold for carrying out the process.
EMI1.1
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
The bristle clusters of brushes are often held in place by binding wires in the back of the brush. These binding wires can also be used on brush backs made of rubber.
It is advisable not to let the binding wires lie on the surface of the brush backs, but to arrange them sunk into the surface. The metal mold according to FIGS. 4 and 5 has ribs 10 on the inner surface of the upper part 1, against which the upper ends of the pins 3, 4 rest when the mold is assembled. The ribs 10 are arranged circularly according to FIGS. 4 and 5 and are slightly wider than the diameter of the pins 3, 4. When the rubber melts in the mold, grooves are formed by the ribs 10 in the surface of the brush back, into which the binding wires can be inserted.
Instead of arranging the ribs 10 as closed circles and making them wider than the diameter of the pins 3, 4, they can also be arranged in a zigzag shape (Fig. 7) or as a segment of a circle (Fig. 11) and made thinner than the pins 3, 4 (Fig 6). Fig. 11 shows how the binding wires 20 lie on the top of the brush bit.
According to FIG. 8, the metal mold also consists of the parts 1, 2. The pins 11, 12 are not fixed in the lower part 2, but are slidable. The inclined pins 12 are attached to piston-like bolts 19 which, like the pins 11, are firmly attached to a metal plate 13. To guide the bolts 19 and the pins 11, holes arranged parallel to the vertical axis of the molded part 2 are used in the base of this molded part. The metal plate 13 can be pressed against the molded part 2 by a screw 14. The screw 14 is screwed through a bracket 15 which is attached to the molded part 2.
In this embodiment of the metal mold, too, the pins 11, 12 are so long that when the plate 13 is pressed against the molded part 2 by the screw 14, the molded part 1 abuts them when the mold is closed. After the back of the brush has been produced, the screw 14 in the bracket 15 is screwed back so that the plate 13 can be moved away from the molded part 2. During this movement, the pins 11, 12 emerge from the finished brush back so that the back can then easily be removed from the mold.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for producing backs for bristle brushes made of elastic material such as rubber, characterized in that the holes for the bristles or tufts of bristles are made at the same time as the back is shaped.
