Molded bodies made of porous material coated with a gelatin and processes for their use
Manufacturing.
It is known that molded articles of all kinds, such as pills, tablets, sticks and strands, are provided with a coating of gelatin by dipping or brushing.
However, this method can only be used for moldings with a smooth, non-porous structure. In the case of molded articles made of porous substance, the gelatin solution penetrates into the interior of the molded articles, clogs the pore ducts, hardens there and thus makes the molded articles difficult to dissolve. The porous structure, which is intended to promote solubility or disintegration, is destroyed by a gelatin treatment and disintegration is considerably delayed.
According to the invention, it is now possible to provide porous moldings with a gelatin coating if the moldings are dusted with a powder which prevents the gelatin solution from penetrating the pores of the moldings before the treatment with gelatin. After hardening, the moldings then have a thin gelatin coating. which only sticks to the dusted surface and can be easily removed. In contact with liquids, the disintegration of the molded article is not delayed in any way, since the gelatin cannot penetrate into the interior of the porous molded article, but rather surrounds it with a film.
Another advantage of the process is that the gelatin coating strengthens the easily breakable, porous molded body. There are therefore moldings which, because of their porous structure, were so fragile that they could not be shipped, and to which a protective gelatin coating could not be applied for the reasons mentioned at the beginning, can now be easily shipped and conveniently handled because the Moldings manufactured using the new process exclude soiling of the hands.
Examples:
1. Medicinal charcoal 50 kg, white clay 25 kg are made into a paste with water to form a plastic mass.
The dried moldings are powdered with carbon powder and then coated with gelatin by immersion in gelatin solution.
2.30 leg clay are intimately mixed with 300 9 chlorine silver, kneaded with distilled water and molded products are made from this mass.
The moldings are dried and, after drying, powdered with alumina powder and then coated with gelatin solution by immersion.
3.50 kg of coal powder are mixed with 25 kg of clay and 0-5 legs of chlorine silver and used
