Die Zigaretten gelangen einzeln auf das endlose Band 2, das sich rascher bewegt als der Zigarettenstrang, so dass jede Zigarette von der folgenden um einen kleinen Abstand getrennt wird.
Zur Erleichterung der Trennung ist über dem Band 2 eine sich schnell drehende Scheibe 3, welche die dargestellte Form aufweisen und vorzugsweise aus Filz oder ähnlichem Material bestehen kann, so angeordnet, dass sie jeweils mit einer Zigarette in Berührung gelangt, so dass die Zigarette augenblicklich zwischen Band und Scheibe leicht erfasst und ihre Geschwindigkeit erhöht wird und die Zigarette sich von der folgenden Zigarette trennt.
Die Zigaretten werden von dem Band 2 unter die Welle 4 befördert, auf der hintereinander zwei Flügelräder 5 sitzen, die in Richtung des Pfeiles gemäss Fig. 4 gedreht werden.
Die Anordnung ist dabei so getroffen, dass je ein Flügel jedes Rades 5 mit jeder zweiten der aufeinanderfolgenden Zigaretten in Berührung gelangt und sie von dem Band 2 auf das Förderband 6 bewegt, das sich quer zum Zigarettenstrang bewegt. Es werden sonach auf dem Band 6 zwei Reihen von Zigaretten gebildet, von welchen jede mit einem Flügelrad 5 in einer Linie liegt, wie aus Fig. 2 ersichtlich ist.
Um die Zigaretten in ihrer Axialbewegung aufzuhalten, sind die Arbeitsflächen der Flügel bei 7 mit geeignetem Reibungsmaterial, z. B. Schmirgelleinwand, überzogen und die Wirkungsweise der Flügel ist zeitlich so bemessen, dass die Axialbewegung der Zigaretten durch Reibungswirkung vollständig beseitigt ist, u. zw. einen Augenblick, bevor die Zigaretten zu dem Förderband 6 befördert werden, so dass die Zigaretten in geraden Reihen und quer zum Förderband abgegeben werden.
