Method and die for repairing worn or demolded tabs for railroad rail joints.
It is known that the tabs used to connect the railroad tracks at the joint wear out very heavily over time under the influence of the vehicles rolling over them.
This applies in particular to the tab edges resting against the rail head and rail foot.
The abutment surfaces of the rails themselves are also subject to wear.
The invention is based on the object of re-creating the worn or demolded tabs

after this repair better than new tabs. Because with new brackets, the upper and lower contact surfaces run parallel, so they would not lie exactly against the worn surfaces of the rail head and foot. On the other hand, the contact surfaces of the bracket to be repaired can be precisely adapted to the worn rail surfaces during forming. In addition, there is the advantage that the material of the old tabs, which was otherwise regarded as waste, is not lost.
The subject of the invention is a repair method in which a press die provided with displacement beads is used in a peculiar way. Because of its special arrangement and shape, the bead of the press die causes the plate material to be displaced in such a way that part of the plate material flows into the die recess, while the other part migrates to the opposite side, with the plate holes remaining unchanged.
The method is illustrated in more detail by the drawing representing an exemplary embodiment, u. Zw. Fig. 1 shows a side view of a repaired rail bracket, while the bracket cross-section is shown in Figs. 2-5, u. in connection with a press die provided with peculiar displacement beads. The progressive displacement process can be seen from these figures. a is the press die, b the press ram. The tab, which is expediently heated to about red to white heat, is inserted between the two for the purpose of reshaping. As a rule, the press die a is stationary, while the press ram b is moved down under strong pressure. Of course, the die can also be moved against the punch, or both can be moved against one another at the same time.
A peculiarly shaped bead d is provided on the die a near the tab holes h.
In addition, the die is shaped in such a way that it corresponds to the desired external shape of the tab to be restored.
The worn or demolded tab is inserted obliquely into the joint (Fig. 2), u. betw. in the
EMI1.2
Under the influence of this ram, the tab initially performs a visual swinging movement. As the pressure increases, a gradual lateral displacement of the tab takes place under the influence of the inclined die surface f. Part of the strap material flows into the die recess, while the other part migrates to the opposite side. The completed pressing process is shown in Fig. 5. Just by the action of the bead d, its special arrangement and one-sided steeper shape and the recess of the press die, the filling of the die cavity occurs in the desired perfect manner, u. betw. with the greatest possible protection of the tab holes h, a.
You do not need to provide thorns or rework these lasehenlöeher h. However, the use of thorns or special hole widening means is not excluded.

In general, it is sufficient to attach a bead d at the specified location. However, if necessary, further displacement beads can also be provided in other places, if necessary also on the surfaces of the press ram that are connected to. come into contact with the workpiece.
As a rule, a long continuous bead d is used, the cross-section of which can, however, differ at different points. The length of the bead can also be chosen differently as required. It is only essential that, due to its arrangement and shape, it causes the plate material to be displaced in the desired direction while protecting the plate holes as much as possible.
The advantage of the method according to the invention is that one gets by with a very simple die, that the repair can be carried out quickly and safely and that inexpensive mass recovery is possible.
The bead d is usually in one piece with the die a. However, you can also use specially inserted or attached or attached bead-like elevations, which consist of a particularly suitable material.
PATENT CLAIMS:
1. A method for repairing worn or demolded tabs for railroad rail joints, using a press die provided with displacement bulges, characterized in that the bead, due to its arrangement and shape, causes the tab material to be displaced during the pressing process in such a way that part of the tab material flows into the die recess, while the other part of the intact holes migrates to the opposite side.
EMI2.1
Die (a) provided with a continuous bead (d) is inserted in such a way that the lug with its longitudinal edge coming to lie on the rail head rests on a die side surface (f), while a certain clearance remains on the opposite die side surface (g), which is followed by the decline of the ram, a gradual lateral displacement of the tab takes place with the hole-protecting material displacement by the bead.
