Process for the production of solid structures from cellulose ethers and esters, such as
Films, fibers, etc. like

It is known that artificial structures made of cellulose ethers and esters, such as. B. synthetic fibers, in terms of their physical properties, in particular strength and elongation, often difficult to meet the requirements of the processing industry; in particular, this applies z. B. for synthetic fibers made from cellulose ethers.

It has now been shown that in the large number of such cellulose derivatives are considered
 EMI1.1
surprisingly, this is the case, although these solutions often appear cloudy as such. With the correct blending of the solvents, whereby carbon disulfide must always be an essential component of the mixture, a clear film or the like is nevertheless obtained from such cloudy solutions.

Example. A slightly milky solution with a cellulose ether content of 8% is obtained from a triethyl cellulose which is clearly soluble in benzene if a solvent mixture of 92% carbon disulfide and 8% benzene is used. From this cloudy solution, however, clear films are obtained which show a 20-25% higher strength with the same elongation compared to films obtained from the same triethyl cellulose from purely benzene solution under otherwise identical conditions.

Example 2. While only cloudy solutions and cloudy films can be obtained from the same triethyl cellulose mentioned in Example 1 by means of pure carbon disulfide or pure acetone, a 7% solution of the cellulose ether in a solvent mixture of 96 percent by weight of carbon disulfide with 4 percent by weight of acetone gives a film that the three-fold elongation shows the same strength as a film which is produced from a pure acetone solution under the same conditions.

Certain special additives, which have a strength-increasing, plasticizing or softening effect, can of course be added to the solvent mixtures as usual.
