Process for the production of artificial asphalt.

Various methods are already known by which synthetic asphalt can be extracted from tar. In the D. R. P. No. 158731 60 degrees sulfuric acid is used for this purpose, as is the D. R. P.

No. 17093, where after the action of sulfuric acid there is also the action of steam. In the D. R. P. No. 171380 the action of air on tar and tar oils is used and in the D. R. P.

No. 335478 such tars are subjected to the oxidizing properties of the air, which have a primordial tar-like character, that is, no tars such as those obtained in coking plants and coal-gas factories.

The present invention now aims to make tars or tar mixtures which are unsuitable for the production of natural asphalt suitable by bringing them to a certain phenol content.

As far as the economy of the present invention is concerned, it is very desirable that on the one hand the phenols find a use in order to still obtain valuable products with their help from less valuable tars, which are used in the briquette and insulation material industry and especially in modern road construction yes, it is more and more important to process domestic tar products that can be used extensively.

When carrying out the process, one works as follows, for example: The tars to be processed are examined for their phenol content and then mixed in such a ratio that the phenol content of the tar mixture is between 12-24%. If the tar mixture set in this way is now set with heating in the presence of suitable catalysts, e.g. B. sulfur-containing iron oxide, blown until extensive condensation of the phenols has occurred, a high-quality synthetic asphalt is obtained.
