Elektrodenabdichtung für elektrische Schmelzöfen.
Zur Abdichtung der Elektroden von Elektrosehmelzöfen bedient iran sich meistens metallischer, zylindrischer Hohlkörper, die den aus dem Ofen heraustretenden Teil der Elektrode umgeben und gegeneinander luftdicht abgedichtet sind. Solche Abdichtungen unterliegen leicht dem Verfall, wenn die Elektrode aus irgendeinem Grunde bricht. In diesem Falle bildet sich zwischen den Bruchstellen ein Lichtbogen, der die metallischen Hülsen schnell zum Schmelzen bringt und dadurch unbrauchbar macht.
Zu deren Schutz wurde vorgeschlagen, um die Elektroden ein Rohr aus Schamotte zu legen, welches Material aber auch durch den an der Elektrodenbruchstelle entstehenden Liehtbogrn zum Schmelzen gebracht wird.
Erfindungsgemäss wird diesem Nachteil dadurch vorgebeugt, dass der innerhalb dieses Rohrsystems gelegene Teil der Elektrode von einem möglichst dicht anliegenden Rohr aus Elektrodenkohle, Graphit od. dgl. umgeben ist. Bei dieser Ausbildung der Abdichtung wird der eingangs geschilderten Gefahr des Zerschmelzens der metallischen Hohlkörper bei Bruch der Elektrode in einfachster Weise vorgebeugt.

To seal the electrodes of electric kilns, iran mostly uses metallic, cylindrical hollow bodies, which surround the part of the electrode emerging from the furnace and are hermetically sealed against each other. Such seals are prone to deterioration if the electrode breaks for any reason. In this case, an arc forms between the break points, which quickly melts the metallic sleeves and thus makes them unusable.
To protect them, it was proposed to place a tube made of fireclay around the electrodes, which material, however, is also melted by the sheet metal produced at the electrode break point.
According to the invention, this disadvantage is prevented in that the part of the electrode located within this pipe system is surrounded by a pipe made of electrode carbon, graphite or the like, which fits as closely as possible. With this design of the seal, the risk of melting the metallic hollow body, as described at the beginning, of the electrode breaking is prevented in the simplest way.
