Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>

Electric lamp with metal caps for power connection.
With electric light bulbs, mercury lamps, X-ray tubes, etc. The like. Up until now, the electrical connection points were often produced in such a way that caps made of platinum or the like were melted into the glass walls. Platinum was used for this reason. because it has approximately the same coefficient of expansion as glass, so that when the molten glass cools down, the risk of the vessels cracking is reduced. However, such caps made of platinum are very expensive and often do not meet the requirements for evacuated vessels, since the caps do not always fit tightly to the glass.
For this reason, according to the present invention, a metal is used for the connection caps which has a significantly greater coefficient of expansion than the glass, for example copper. Such caps are very cheap and also extremely advantageous because they tightly enclose the glass when it cools and are even under a certain tension.
The production method of connection points with caps is z. B. the following:
EMI1.1
Both parts are firmly connected to each other when they cool, since the metal cap, due to its greater coefficient of expansion, rests against the glass attachment with a certain tension.
EMI1.2
to exercise, whereby the glass tube approach at the edge of the cap somewhat thickens in order to be able to offer resistance to the tension of the cap.
